So the easiest thing to do is to ban them.

Theres also the issue of the psychological impact of the effect on the identity of the cloned person.  That counts for something.

And heres the really interesting part.  Would the typical capsuleer even want another version of him or her running around?  Someone just as ruthless, who knows legally only one can own their vast wealth, and who knows every secret and strategy that capsuleer uses?  There is no enemy more insidious than oneself.

But also, I read a thing a while back, which is sort-of related to this.

It said that, when asked the question:
"If there was an absolutely identical clone of yourself, would you fight with, or have sex with, them?"

Men tended to choose "Fight With", whereas women tended to choose "have sex with".

just thought that it is interesting how Gottii and Vieve have different outlooks, that fit with the silly thing I read, though not to the same extreme. Gottii says "compete with", Vieve says "collaborate with"

I might be wildly off-target, but I do believe that the reason for the ban of multiple clones does have something to do with people meeting themselves being bad for the psyche. Might be thinking the wrong setting or something, though.

In the Jean Claude van Dam movie, "Time Cop", if you meet and touch the past version of yourself, both versions of you die horibly by turning to goo.

I would like to think the same thing happens in Eve

But in that particular film you have an ultra-secret organisation who are tasked to prevent changes to the timestream. Who wear clearly marked uniforms whilst in the past and who carry clearly marked "Time Police" badges.

Oh man, something just hit me.  No wonder the slave traders of the Amarrian Empire, no matter how irreligious and immoral, give lip service to the concept of the soul and salvation.

If no one believed it, if a clone was the same as a person, all the sudden their entire industry is taken from them.  Cloning a workforce is vastly more efficient and predictable than raising one.  And leaves the industry open to just about anyone.  So, Holders are going to preach about the soul as much as they can, regardless of belief, because it keeps their monopoly intact. 

And, outside of the Empire, someone who starts to crank out various service clones might just get a call from Angel hitmen, for much the same reason.
