As part of its new advertising campaign, CCP is about to launch a site for community contributions about what we love about EVE.

EVE's best hooks for catching and holding new players are community connection and EVE's "stories". The simplest expressions of those are "recruiting friends of existing players" and "getting new players into player-run corps", and sharing the sense of single-shard history which can make what you do in-game seem meaningful. This site sounds like it could play to both of those themes, while also offering the rest of us a platform for nostalgia and, perhaps, PR PvP about presenting desirable views of our own communities and framing history in our own terms. (I might be exaggerating here: it's not entirely clear that this will be about more than screenshots and battle-fraps, but it has the potential to be about much more, and I'm still a sucker for potential. I'm also expecting there will be heavy moderation and awareness of Time-To-Penis factors.)

There are 5 main categories of content: War, Exploration, Corp Recruiting, EVE is Real and Freestyle. We included freestyle so you don't have to force a square peg. Just add what makes your EVE experience and gets you to play this internet spaceship game.

I might contribute something discuss the game's open-ended nature. Did anyone here play the Microsoft game Freelancer? I always loved how at the end of the campaign the words "Find A Job" appeared on the screen, and off you went on your merry way. The dynamics of EVE remind me of that, as in five years I've gone from miner, to industrialist, to soldier, to leader.

Ha ha ha. Yes I'm sure we're all amused now. But my point stands. The open-ended dynamic of EVE makes the possibilities of what one can do almost limitless. Freelancer was much the same way once the campaign ended.
