I haven't seen anything fraudulent yet, though I'm ready to get my credit union involved should a problem arise. And if I end up having to get them involved, I'll be contacting my state AG's office over the entire circumstance of the breach.

The chances that class action lawsuits will not occur over this strike me as vanishingly close to zero.

Well, they have over 70 million ps3 accounts, and have confirmed that the theft of all of our personal info i.e, DoB, address, name ect has been taken. They have yet to see anything to confirm that the credit card info was taken, and they caution us to not rule that out.  :s

So on the fact alone that the personal info is taken, is that validation enough for a lawsuit?

Yes (disclosure: I lead incident response at a PCI DSS-compliant payment processor).

Also, already happened. More will come.

I used to own a 360, and from what I've experienced, Xbox Live has a better quality to it all. Probably due to the fact that you pay for it.

soooo "The Rothken law firm filed the suit in a California district court (the proper place to sue Sony) on behalf of one Kristopher Johns and the other 76,999,999-ish PSN users in the world. It attacks Sony for failing to "

So i dont have to file then? We're already included in this lol

I haven't cancelled my CC yet, but I will have to keep my eye on the transactions and one hand on the phone to the bank.

If I were you, I'd do it now before you have a problem.

Wasn't there some other incident where Sony got heavily criticized for poor PR...? Can't remember what it was.

And already there are suspicions that the data breach is connected to some folks reverse-engineering the PS3 and making a patch allowing to convert retail consoles into debug/development consoles - which apparently allows them to spoof all kinds of things about who you are to the PSN as a side effect.

The understanding I have is that the PSN trusts the clients to report what games and DLC they're allowed to access. In security architecture, trusting the client is generally A Very Bad Idea -- the worst thing you can do. It's like a bank trusting anyone who says "oh I have access to all the money in Account A which I am telling you has N dollars" and the bank saying "awesome here's your money d00d".
