For the fans of the novels of Georges R Martin, and for everyone else too btw :

Looks f*** awesome, as usual. Thanks HBO. I can't wait any longer now.

Just watched the first part thanks to my friend the internet.
It's pretty good. There are of course some things I'd have done differently* or more likely have imagined differently when I read the novels, but in the end I'm pretty happy with the realisation. Now it's on my to-buy-list.

PS: The board game is pretty good, although I prefer to play the Riverlands-Expansion. Played the CCG/LCG, too, and tomorrow is SIFRP-day. Oh joy!

*(vague to avoid spoilers) I think the last scene wasn't as strong as it should or could've been.

HBO was doing a free weekend just to show off the first episode.

Loved it.

From what ive heard Martin himself is overseeing the thing and will probably be behind the realisation of a few episodes. Makes me pretty confident. Now I hope the series will have a good success, I would really like to see it last (until the end...? :p).

You would need to somehow convince the idle bastard to actually finish writing the books :)

First episide was good though I thought. Pretty nice adaption.

I never read the books.

The first time I tried, the writing pissed me off.

The second time I tried, I thought the prologue seemed okay, but I still put it back on the shelf.

However, I acquired the first episode of the show, and thought it was rad, so I'll probably read the books now, at some point.

A good review can be found here: http://www.avclub.com/articles/winter-is-coming,54682/

Even though the reviewer gave the pilot a 'B' his enthusiasm for the episodes to follow is obvious.

And by the way, having not read the books, I didn't find it hard to follow, though I had read up on the characters on Wikipedia beforehand, something I wouldn't do if you're spoiler-averse, because that spoils the whole plot within about two lines.

Very good series, I've seen up to episode 6 and the quality is consistent. I hope it has the success it deserves.

First episode was good, but didn't convince me totally. Second episode did that, though. Definitely a series to watch - which is good, since I haven't really been following anything since BSG.

First episode was indeed not convincing, but much like the first 5-10 min of a quietly and slowly starting movie are usually not. You have to wait and watch more to get the whole picture. I had the same feeling here, the story is very long/huge and takes time to get in place properly. So much like you I appreciated the 2nd episode too.
