My issues tend to be more with tone and scope.

For example, early in the novel the Ishuukone CEO is on approach to a Caldari station piloting a Raven, with a phalanx of impressive Caldari firepower providing close escort. Sounds good to me, very fitting.

What we would suspect to be a grandiose entrance showcasing the importance of one of the most powerful people in New Eden, turns into a comedy routine. Mens is trying to pilot the Raven while having essentially a phone call argument with his wife at the same time, and almost crashes his Raven into one of the escorts. Oops! He even crosses the phone lines and talks to the escorts accidentally instead of his wife! Oops!

The other issue is that is actually does us a disservice to know the inner thoughts and actions of the most powerful people in New Eden. The more you reveal about powerful characters, the less impressive they become. It's the imagination of not knowing that adds to things, not knowing every little detail.

How much cooler was Boba Fett when he was an unnamed bounty hunter kicking ass? Your imagination fills in those gaps in amazing ways. How less interesting now is he that we saw him as a little kid and know all about it? How cool was it to hear Obi Wan talk about Vader and the 'dark times' and the 'clone wars' in Episode IV? How lame was it to see every little thing happen?

Better to keep the novel with subordinates and associates of the powers that be, not them directly.

I liked the novel. It reminds me of an updated World of Null-A.  :yar:

Yep. :) Though Tony did kind of troll when he said it wasn't "They-who-must-not-be-named". Sort of. ;)

So... Jamyl Sarum, religious figurehead of a theocratic empire, engages in drug-fuelled lesbian tickle parties.

Hot.

I always knew religious chicks were crazy in the sack.

I don't think it's that bad considering that she never wanted the responsibility, that she wanted to rebel a bit. Plenty of religious kids do it all the time.

"Sure, they WANT you to think they're ultra-religious. But have you ever taken a peek under one of their robes? It's dildos! Dildos all the way down!"

You know in one sense, I almost feel angry for the Amarr bloc.

I mean I wasn't around for TEA, but I imagine once the whole "Godflesh" thing got ruined, it must have felt very demoralizing. Now, Jamyl appears to just be Tony's personal outlet for odd humiliation erotica.

I mean when CCP is allowed to work with the fiction, it seems so awesome. The Empire is a monolithic force that used to conquer planets every morning, have tea, and get back to conquering in the afternoon. They squared off with the Jovians, have this vast, magnificent empire, like Nero's dream, a combination of artwork and immense cityscapes.

And then when Tony G gets to play with the Amarrian action figures, he just poses them with their pants down and chuckles about it.

No one's been paying attention to any of my RP, apparently.
You think Grae jumped into the Clergy for piety's sake?
