  • New and improved, and only in FFXIV

Gonna get straight to the (bullet)point(s)....RAEG TIME!

- What happened to Ishukone and Mordu's Legion doing stuff in Intaki?
- What happened to President Roden doing anything on his election manifesto?
- What happened to the economic upheaval in the State caused by the FDU?
- What happened to power in the State shifting to the Practical bloc on account of the last two occupied Federal systems belonging to SuVee?
- What happened to Tibus Heth's State Loyalty Tribunal and stepping on the megacorps' toes?
- What happened to the prospect of a Liberal/Practical alliance against Heth and the Patriots?
- What happened to the people who are no longer under occupation in the FDC?
- What happened to the general state of the Feds causing unease in the State financial system?

All of this was on a roll to develop, as Roden pulled strings (or pretended to), Heth got paranoid and there was going to be a seismic shift in the State...

Suddenly it just...stopped halfway, in the middle of the arc, when the new Sansha arc came up. I'm not sure what Mercury is doing, but we've had plenty of Amarr and Minmatar news items, in fact, the intertribal tensions arc remains in progress...so what happen /o\

The last Gallente/Caldari news item relating to the current conflict was in April. I'm pretty sure there used to be a time when each faction got news items twice per month at least. In any case, the last news item for the Caldari was in July...Heth suddenly doesn't start stepping on toes at the rate he did and then nothing happened...

Mercury is volunteer run, isn't it? Maybe they don't have enough people atm.

It's been like this since the beginning of forever. I had to remind them that intaki was liberated, meaning certain important things with the Mordus/Ishukone had to be resolved. =/

CCP doesn't care because it has nothing to do with the next expansion. Oh, and they don't care about us.

-What happened to the artifact recovered from Aset that Kador requested the Amarr Militia recover? We saved the Ammatar scientist, and the saint. What happened with that artifact that was suspected to be a ancient weapon?

CCP still has to update the names of certain ceo's of npc corps. i.e. The Court Chamberlain.

If you go into RAEG every time CCP starts something and does not finish, I recommend quitting now, to avoid a premature death from stress-induced coronary heart disease.

I always recommend people do not set the foundations of their RP on CCP-driven stories etc, because in the long run you will either be screwed or retconned too hard. Events and stories are nice and give characters something to react to and I love a lot of official stuff - when it is good, it is very, very good - but relaying on it continuing, let alone continuing in a manner they hinted at earlier, is just too risky. :)

EDITed to add: Note that this is not really a specific fault of CCP's. They do not suck at it any more than anyone else. It's just they are game-mastering a sandbox MMOG of a couple of tens of thousands of players with changing staff and other usual hazards of paid work. Such things will always happen, no matter how dedicated or good the current guys in charge are.

You missed one: "what happened to trying to halt the Sinister, Invading Sansha Menace™ completely instead of playing Whack-A-Toaster with twenty- or forty-man cans of RAID?"

Morwen's Law:
1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

As long as I've known this, I still need to apply it a little better.

Your absolutely right Elsebeth, but dont they have a division dedicated soley to the ongoing story of the game and the events happening within it? They start something and then just start something else, not even finishing what was initially started. Seems to be a odd way of doing things when your running a game that is so story driven.

Yes, but the Storyline team and the ISD Mercury team aren't identical (though obviously Mercury answers to Storyline at some level). Storyline isn't obliged to follow up on what Mercury starts, for example, but they also seem to have similar focus problems as the rest of CCP ("ooh! shiny!").

They've sort of had a team or several teams for that over the years, yes. However, the event and story divisions that are there now are not the same that were there some years ago, and I'd not be surprised for them not being the same that will be there a couple of years from now. They are not a coherent group, and have internal disagreements about how stuff really works and what is important. There's also been a lot of changes in personnel over the years. So continuity is less than just thinking "but there's a storyline team!" implies.

Plus the "ooh, shiney" effect mentioned above.

Well that insight is most welcomed, hopefully the World of Darkness mmo doesnt suffer from the same issues. I played the table tops faithly for a long time, I would hate for the story to be all over the map. Would make that game completely unplayable.

I'm afraid that my understanding is that such instability in story teams in a game older than a couple of years will be pretty much unavoidable. I don't think CCP is doing a particularly bad job; it is simply that with a developing sandbox game with the realities of people changing jobs etc it is not an easy job to do.
