Personality: Renelle has a dry tone and an even drier wit. She isn’t one for small talk and doesn’t try very hard to keep up with people. Given enough time and contact with others, she does eventually warm up to them, and it is here that the better parts of her personality begin to shine. Around people she likes and respects, she is warm, accepting, and even talkative, and especially prone to self-deprecating humor.
She is intelligent and highly capable, but she is more likely to rely on the relative renown of her parents and siblings. Successfully completing capsuleer training has been her sole achievement thus far, and she is eager to distinguish herself in some other way.
History: Born in the Sebestior homelands, Renelle was the last of four children between Rais-Mari and Seung Ronuken. Her parents and, later, her siblings worked in the design of mechanical components and weapons, overseeing and coordinating the production and delivery as well through a small, clan-related outfit. The Ronukens were determined to send all of their children not only to university but also through capsuleer training, and they achieved this by producing machinery for various Matari organizations, both government-sanctioned and otherwise, sometimes operating in secret.
The Ronukens became known for their industriousness (or duplicitousness, depending on who you asked) in the circles that their operations touched, but more recently the name has been associated with tragedy. The oldest sibling, Berko, qualified for capsuleer training but was killed in the process. The second-born, Io, blazed through capsuleer training and was hailed as the perfect candidate. But her star burned out at the Battle of Mekhios, at which her parents also joined her as crew aboard her ship; all three are presumed dead.
In keeping with their parents’ wishes, Renelle and her remaining older brother, Kwesi, both attended capsuleer training after graduating from Pator Tech. Kwesi failed out early and has since taken up a sedentary lifestyle on Matar with the family business.
Renelle’s run at capsuleer training was not as fantastic as Io’s, but she did well enough to pass. Certain that she wanted to lend her skills to a corporation that worked in tandem with government efforts, she joined Gradient not long after completing her training.
Notes: Renelle has an uncommon affinity for music, and she invented a few musical instruments of her own when she was younger. She used to give impromptu concerts out on the steppes.
All of the Ronuken siblings said the same words at their Voluvals, the same that their mother Rais-Mari said at hers: “My actions will speak where my words may not.”
Renelle’s Voluval mark appeared over her heart and is usually hidden by clothing. Made of jagged lines like a scar or a tear trail, the mark is known as the Long Tear and tends to be seen on individuals whose lives become defined by grief.
As a small child, Renelle befriended a corovid (actually a series of similar-looking corovids), whom she called “Dr. Bird.” She still uses this name for many of her ships.
