Just for the record:

It would be nice if either (1) you could keep the "secret" knowledge under your hats or (2) you could let our characters in on the joke sooner rather than later.

Tony G. revealed the "Other" years ago, and we're still having to pretend we don't know about it.

Theorycrafting thread.

Yeah, it's related.

Bluntly, having the OOC theorycrafting out so far in front of the IC theorycrafting is a problem. It means that keeping up with the story means acquiring a headful of OOC metaknowledge a good roleplayer will be expected to keep quarantined.

It's one of the reasons I haven't bothered to go looking, and yet I STILL KNOW IT.

Plot getting too convoluted makes me unconsciously forgetful anyway. >.>

Ignoring the novels ever existed is a pretty good way of going about it.

In fact, I dropped the first one half-way through because it was too agonizing to read.

The Burning Life by Hjalti was half-decent, though.

I haven't read any of them, but I still end up hearing about it.

it's worse when CCP expects you to use external resources to find out things about the 'story'.

E.g. wormholes, you were supposed to use Google, to find out that the J1234 number things related to one of the International Astronomy Unions database of quasars, and thus 'discover' that the wormholes were spread across immense distances over the entire known universe.

Or more recently, when CCP actors use solarsystemID numbers in a message, which can only be accessed by looking up the EVE database static data export. E.g. Thera has solarsystem ID 30000005 or something, that number was mentioned in a message by an event actor, but the only way to find that number, is to download CCPs mySQL database export, and pore through it looking for the solarsystemID table.

It turns finding the "answers" from being a thing that could be done in-character, to something that can only be done out-of-character.
