That PIE capsuleers do not only supply their comrades with spiced wine, but also with dark, maltey ale and fine brandy from their planetside holdings?

[Planet] Hemin V
« on: 06 Aug 2010, 19:19 »

Colony Common Name: Hemin V
Colony Local Name: Hemin
Governtment Type: Corporate Run Colony State
Population: 1,000,000
largest City: Serendipity
Principal Exports: Agricultural products, biomass, microbiological products, foodstuffs

History:
Hemin V was settled fairly early on during the expansion into null security space, despite its inital lack of any large scale Jovian artifacts, the world was important nonetheless, as its large mild climate was perfect for large scale farming and agriculture. The world quickly became a major center of trade in Curse, providing food for billions on the other planets. Despite this, its population remained fairly small and city bound due largely to the large aggressive local predators called Veshankas, requiring the use of robotics and automation for the majority of the farming work. At its height, the population of Hemin V barely reached 1 million people.

When the Cartel took power in Curse, Hemin V's government was mostly co-opted by the cartel, with them taking the place of the formerly independent distributors and inserting their own personnel into the local government. Turning the colony into what was effectively corporate venture by the Salvation Angels. However, for the most part, life on Hemin V remained fairly peaceful, the cartel attempted several times to purge the world of the Veshankas, but to no avail. Although they are still hunted by many for sport, and the cartel occasionally uses the hostile wildlife for military training exercises.

Geography:
Hemin V's climate is mild, with short winters and long growing seasons. Also, because of the small seas, there is very little atmospheric displacement and there are few storms, gently winds constantly wrap the planet, and with few mountain ranges, it is almost always slightly breezy. This environment was perfect for growing large quantities of food, and for the million inhabits tough enough to try to take the paradise from the local wildlife, it is indeed a Utopia of sorts.

Industry: Because of the requirement for a large amount of oversight on the production lines. The Industrial side of the food processing on Hemin V has been mostly relegated out, the farms produce bulk raw materials which are then sent orbital to be processed further on other worlds. However, there is a very large and thriving robotics industry, maintaining the machines of the planet, and despite the high attrition rate, several large landholders have turned to slavery to improve profit margins.

The last bit of the geography section confuses me.

There shouldn't be any organic life possible on the planet if enough free floating radioactives are in the atmosphere to kill "within a matter of days".

higher lifeforms would have been killed off, but most plants would be tough enough to survive.

I remain speculative?

I'll have to leave it to someone more familiar with the effects of nuclear fallout though, I suppose.

If it slightly breezy and has good climate, with local fauna reaching large size, wouldn't the evolution have created some winged creatures? those could provide with feathers and other interesting agro-industrial products.
