I play role-playing game because I like to have (the illusion) of choice.
I don't care if I'm being railroaded, as long as it is done subtly enough and leaves enough doubts.
If I want to enjoy a story where my choice doesn't matter, I'll go read a book or watch a movie. In terms of story-telling an EVE event just doesn't compare to those to.
This is part of the problem why I find mission boring. Doing mission doesn't really affect anything, no choice of mine has an impact on the world, win or lose, except for my wallet.
Even if an event is pre-scripted for one side to lose, there can still be interesting choices to be made, multiple ways of how to lose. It not about win/lose, its about being able to make a meaningful contribution to a story. I didn't sign up for eve to be used as a Red Shirt.
