Ok, so no really solid info either way, then. I mean, the overall impression I have is that the drones are AIs rather than sleeper-consciousness driven, but I thought I might have fallen behind on the newest-sleeper-info front if there was solid stuff to back up one view or another.

They're drones in the sense like Rogue Drones, but are following a set amount of orders. Their emergent intelligence gives them the learning capability to reach what they're needed to do, but their hard safeties stop them from completing the emergence process.

If those limits were removed, they would probably start to experience independent development much like the Rogue Drones.

I assume, Ghost, that some of that is somewhat speculative?

though, like the Geth, I get the sense the Sleeper drones have multiple layers of 'intelligences' within them, likes cells in a body, kept in check by a network of failsafes. The 'brain' of the drone is the AI Nexus, clearly a self-contained and autonomous system that controls the larger system.

The drones also learn and stockpile information like humans do, enabling adaptive tactics development.

However, like the Movers of Homeworld 2, they're still bound to their original purpose, and continuously focus on it, like an obsession.

1.0-5.1 Microvirtual Transmission Systems
5.2-5.5 Sensor Backup Systems
6.0 Operation Servers
7.0 Proliferation News Network Studios
8.0 Detransmission Clusters

The question is, what is The Mirror, mirroring? Why does it need a proliferation news network studio? ;)

You left out the most important part, Arvo.

Communications Enclave: Directory
1.0 - 5.1 Microvirtual Transmission Sensors
5.2 - 5.5 Sensor Backup Systems
6.0 Operation Servers
7.0 Proliferation News Network Studios
8.0 Detransmission Clusters”

If, for instance, you needed to restart civilization from square one, you'd need a news broadcast, yes?

Funny, I thought news networks are part of the reason we need to rebuild civilization in the first place. :P

Only Fox News.

Them too, and maybe top of the list, but in all seriousness, the sort of mass media appeal for which places like MSNBC and CNN strive tend to indicate that we have a problem far beyond simple factionalism.

Thus, if the Sleepers are originally human, I contend that human nature itself hasn't changed in 20k years. The same problems with mass media and broadcast communication will remain, even in a post-human society.
