I might just be too old in that regard. If you'll excuse the cane and porch, "back in my day" this was pretty much a given whether you were a roleplayer or not. Even your average little sperglord, "lolkid" or whatever denigrating term one used to look down upon the non-RPer - yes, that did happen quite often. I think it was partly a blowback from how RPers tended to be viewed in other mainstream MMOs. - still blatantly put on their masks and pretty consciously picked a role to play in Eve. It came naturally that first half a decade. They picked sides, they created sides, and they picked up identities and ran with them. It even happens today, but to a far lesser degree partly because any engaging world-building pretty much doesn't happen anymore. The lack of regular chronicles and articles are creating a greater gulf between the playerbase and the setting than there used to be.
... anyway, where was I going with this? Right, yeah, I think the 'insights' in Mittens' article at least used to be far more universally known. Perhaps it's just that this has changed with the current crop.
