[Character] Xaod
« on: 28 Aug 2012, 18:09 »

Hey all. I'm experimenting with making up a couple of new character concepts. Also experimenting with presentation. I've never much liked these old character background presentations because they introduced me to stuff that my character would not know. Secrets, traumatic childhoods and the like. Things I would rather discover in play (if some things could be discovered at all). So, I'm now trying to write a background by having the character introduce himself, and share the things he would normally share. And also trying to get a grip on his personality and tone of voice by letting him do the talking. So, without further ado:

I don't have much to tell you. I'm just a regular guy lucky enough to get a capsuleer license. Yeah, I'm a Brutor, so what? If you think I'm going to run off to fight the Amarr yelling some crap like 'we come for our people', then you got another thing coming. I'm not getting all teary-eyed over some poor sods I've never met that have been living in the muck for a couple of centuries.  Fuck that.

Yeah, if some Amarrian is threatening my friends or my family, I'll happily empty a shotgun in his face. I'll do the same with Shakor's cronies if they start telling me what I can and what I can't do. Religion, fine. Just keep your prayers to yourself, don't bother me with your laundry lists of do's and don'ts and we'll get along.

Friends and family come first. Touch one of them and we've got a problem. Growing up on an low orbit processing plant on a storm world does that to you. Work, even just living there, was dangerous. If one of us fucked up, we all paid the price. Nothing teaches you self-discipline faster than seeing a few friends of you lit up by stray electrical discharge because someone forgot to double-check the insulation cords.

Yeah, life is harsh and unfair. I don't care if you're a slave or a some lord, we all gotta play with the cards we've been dealt. Sometimes that involves bashing in some heads. Tough but unavoidable. Some of my friends may think I've hit the jackpot now that I got my license, but it doesn't take much brains to figure a boatload of isk in your bank account doesn't make you a happy man. What you do get is a lot of people sucking up to you because you're suddenly 'rich and important'. Yeah right.

Capsuleer life is kinda lonely. I miss my family and old friends, but once you're in a pod, it hard to leave it behind. It's addictive. Worse in a way than your typical drugs. I love flying my Rifter. The sudden acceleration when I turn on the afterburner, the groans of the joints when I make a high-G turn, the sight of a barrage of slugs impacting on your target.

No, I don't have high and lofty goals. As I told you, I'm just a regular guy trying to get by. Some think I should have such goals and principles. I guess. Now, don't you look at me like that, I'm not gonna rob a couple of random folks just because I need a quick fix. If they don't bother me, I'm not bothering them, that's my main principle.

I like this.  It reminds me of a sidebar/flavor piece in a RPG manual.

Yay! Regular people just getting by with a proper peppering of cynicism and jaded outlooks for a dystopian and dark universe like New Eden!
