That the Rogue Jovian General incident years ago sparked Tech 2?

What purpose is there in these topics on the IGS with no points of interaction?

I mean, the ones like the one offering a reward to talk to a Jovian.

Can't be done, nothing to interact with, so it doesn't look like anything that people can do much with, besides make small talk comments on, since there's no way to claim the reward, and no reason to interact.

So, when there's nothing that other players can do with it, why make such a topic ?

If something comes of the gesture, is it truly empty? It may not get the exact goal it wants, but if another player gives the hosting party something then they've obtained something from the gesture.

In the specific case you're referencing, talking to a Jovian can be done - especially in today's environment. No one knows of any current day Jovian actors (at least in the public sphere), but CCP's twirlymustache villainy might conjecture up something if it suits them.

In the same stroke, you're also saying it's impossible to talk to Sansha Kuvakei, when that has been demonstrated to not be the case. The brush goes two ways, as it were.

Well, I'll be happy to donate all of my assets and give the proceeds to the Khanid Orphanarium for a few minutes to sit down with my King

To express what one's character is concerned with. I mean, there's not really a way to find out what another char is dealing with outside of him or her expressing it, as there are no tracks to be followed, no NPCs to be bought, no computer files to be hacked into, no twitches of emotion visible on the others face.

Kal petitioned to run as a third party candidate for the Federation Elections, with very little to impossible odds of influencing their scripted event.  Does that count as an empty gesture?

[mod]I think it is a topic worth exploring - people making gestures on IGS that can via game mechanics etc have no actual resolution. That being said I want to remind everyone to make sure and follow the guidelines in their posting, as past experience suggests this is a potentially divisive subject.[/mod]

Maybe these gestures are empty. Maybe.

I remember a time when a newly formed Alliance declared on IGS that they would be declaring war against the Blood Raider NPCs in the Bleak Lands.

I remember this stupid little post causing the devs to 'wake up' these factions.

I remember the Amarr Empire going to war with the BRC, and kicking them out to Delve, and glorious war between the supporters of each side, and solidarity with our allies who had finally been 'called to duty' by our faction.

I find these threads you speak of as silly as most, but useless?

I remember when they weren't. I like to hope one day we'll be there again.

As long as it is generating RP material and is not ludicrous (meaning coherent and realistic), it is most welcome to me. Who cares if its pointless, what matters is the RP outcome you can get out of it. It is just a RP excuse to launch something interesting and offer the possibility to players to get involved.

Live and let live, I say. Well except when people fly in front of my guns / launchers, but that's their own fault then  As long as people doing it don't expect special dev attention it's not really a problem. It can be found frustrating by others because it reminds them of times where it did spark something, or because they know it is futile, but as said if it ties into a story why not. There's always the option to not read or respond to threads. It's what I do when I got nothing really to contribute :)
