Not forgetting some huge artillery. No matari craft is complete without inordinate amount of artillery.

Quote
“We can save all of Minmatar. Us. Not Skymother. Not the Elders and their empty prophecies. With this we can lift our faces from the mud and shit the rest of New Eden has cast us down into.”

My guess would be a religious reference.  Or more poetically...

Quote
Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.
~William Makepeace Thackeray

Furthermore, it makes sense in terms of mythology: a common creation myth, altered by the setting, appropriate given the EVE Gate.  Game designers have a tendency to adapt mythology in building a game world (for good reason).  Add in the (perhaps not-so-obvious) corollary between the Tribes of the Minmatar and the Tribes of Israel...

...long story short, it's most likely a religious reference.   ;)  Snakes in the branches and all, you know?
