Yes, the Japanese are very well known for that. But then knights in ancient England, Celts, some native American tribes, African tribes...
The list could go on, but so many cultures used to have suicides for the sake of honour.

This could - again - be said about many cultures, but it's less obvious within your own.

Collectivism is a very Asian/Eastern concept. Family comes first, and in the State, it extends to corporation and country. Individualism by contrast is very Western, born from materialism. We can't wait to break free of our parents and families, for example.

I can see what you're getting at there. It's an inherently European trait to view one's family as a burden. That said, it's also an over generalisation.
