Title: Current State of RP Corporations During/After Riots
Post by: Katrina Oniseki on 26 Jun 2011, 13:41
As a RolePlayer looking to enter 'the scene', I'm left wondering how bad the damage is amongst the RP corps. How many of your numbers have unsubscribed? How many pilots have left the capsule behind? I don't need numbers, for obvious counter-intelligence and corp security reasons, but I'd just like to know how bad it is out there.

None of my current corporation was affected by the riots, so I know it's not widespread. Besides, 5k out of 350k is pretty tiny. Even so, there are quire a few strong opinions being shown at this site, and I guess some of you who have said you're leaving are fairly influential. I don't know, I'm still new here, haha.

I have yet to see a single Electus Matari member unsub over this. If they did, they did it quietly and with no fanfare.
(Or I've missed it, somehow)

I think a lot of folks -- including me -- are reconsidering plans ATM based on Zulu's blog today.

Reconsidering plans to leave, or plans to stay?

Sorry, wasn't clear. I have put my plans to leave on hold for the moment.

we have definitely had a few people talk about leaving and a couple of people have declared they are unsubscribing - but my feeling is none of this is a deal-breaker IF ccp is able to reassure the community in the weeks to come (first at the extraordinary ccp/csm summit meeting) ((that has apparently been paid for by the monocle-buyers))*

* that might not actually be true.

2 or 3 for us, though it is not really unsubscribing but a huge drop of presence or totally clueless stances regarding the future. We wait.

I think it's more that the RP community is small to begin with (relative to the size of EVE's playerbase), so that even if the relatively low rate of leaving is maintained, is sucks a large percentage of the RP community's people out.

I think as RPers we tend to pay a lot more attention and/or care a lot more when CCP does something bone-headed. I couldn't say why that is, it's just my impression. And yeah, I know of at least two or three corps that have been hit very hard by this one. My corp doesn't really count as RP and doesn't look like it's suffering any.

I'm hoping against hope that people will chill for the week and wait to see what CCP does with CSM, but I still think we're going to lose a few people we'll really miss. PR is something I'm good at and I'm not sure there's anything CCP can do to completely fix this, though there are certainly things they can do to make it better.

Honestly it looked like most reactions before this blogpost were 'ok I'm canceling but I still have a decent amount of time, I'll wait and see' or the like. There were a few very vocal "I QUIT RIGHT NOW DEATH TO ZULU" types but those are common in any MMO really.

Sansha here, just another day at the office.

(That being said I've not seen much /quitting levels of rage from the circles I operate with)

I'm technically unsubbed but knew that I was going to be waiting a little while to see what the damage was at the end of all of this before being able to finalize any sort of decision anyway. (Though subs do run out in ~10 days D:)

Using this time to take an EVE-break and play some other games though. ;)

We had a discussion about it in the ILF corp chat and only one player had a concern and that was because the new graphics outpaced his laptop. However, he has a desktop that will run the new version, so it was more of a concern that he can't play at work anymore.

LDIS is situation normal.  No real concerns from anyone other than myself, biggest thing I was considering was consolidating 3 characters to one account.

This pretty much sums it up for about a dozen folks in Rote Kapelle, maybe more.

Ghost doesn't count, he has to deal with this kind of :psyccp: on a daily basis. >>

Whole disruption for me was about two days. Such a "gap" in playing from me is pretty much routine.

No other disruption I'm aware of, though the NEA was a little quiet(er) last night.

Well, I'm waiting and seeing.

But, tenatively, I'm out the door if certain assurances don't come very soon.

Not a single disruption on my end concerning Sani Sabik role players and organizations involved with it. Had one emoragequit investor for NC leaving for 2 days and returning after pretending no one perceived. Other than that, business goes as usual, undisturbed on our end.

Still waiting to see what happens with the CSM meeting before I consider resubbing my accounts.  I may end up consolidating characters into fewer than four (two seems tidy).  While I didn't log in much this weekend, that doesn't mean I won't play while I still have paid-for game time.  Think Hamish/Sakuma is pretty much in the same boat.

I have a huge thing for Ulthwé and Biel-Tan Craftworld Eldar. While they are not always the spikiest of space elves, their warlocks have awesome antlers.

Also, these guys (http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/470/1254276826067.jpg)

There's been some noise and whining in Veto about it, but I'm not inclined to discuss numbers here out of respect for them, as well as that V's the only one who has the right to go into specifics.

I think one of my posts on Twitter yesterday sums it up best: "Sad but true: the only thing that's truly disrupted my gameplay in any meaningful way is the pissing and moaning from people I fly with."

... I'm out the door if certain assurances don't come very soon.

I'm not bothering to wait, and the reason is that I don't think CCP is stupid enough to try to use "weasel language."

Trying to trick people with clever wording is a dumb ploy when you're trying to do PR. Saying one day, "No, we're not planning on doing 'golden ammo,'" and the next, "Ah, but we never said anything about ships!" is PR suicide. You might (sometimes) be able to get away with (some of) it in a court, but people here aren't going to be doing a close reading of the "letter" of the statement.

If CCP violates the spirit of prior statements, it'll be almost worse than lying outright. People will respond about the way you'd expect people to respond when subjected to "gotcha" language. That is, with great rage.

We all know the reputation my profession presently enjoys. The last thing you want to look like in front of your customers is a legalistic slimeball. Ergo, it's reasonably safe to take CCP Zulu's statements in the implied spirit.

Mind you, if you're waiting for CCP to say, "we'll never, ever so much as think about it," you may be waiting a while, Graelyn, if only because "never" is a horribly long time. The same may be true if you're waiting for them to say, "And we'll fix FW next week."

Well said Aria. I wish there was some sort of like or 'rep' button on this site so I could show someone the proper support and spirit to what they had to say, when I actually have nothing more to add to the conversation.

I got 3 pilots who un-subbed so far. It is doubtful anyone else will in I-RED at least.

I think on the whole "Role-players" are more invested in the universe than the average player.  As such it's harder for us (to generalize) leave and invest in a new world.  We're (also I'd like to think) a bit more rational and patient than the average player.

Personally I'm not planning on going anywhere, but I do admit to be a little less "invested" than I was before.  I'm waiting to see the results of the CSM meeting.  Also (again personally) I'm more upset at the lack of Incrana content than the whole MT thing.  So if they do indeed "iterate" regularly over the next few months I'll be mollified.
