Diablo 3 Last Adventurer Standing Stream

Hello all residents of backstage,

Having been inspired by some recent Twitch streaming activities from friends and strangers alike, I have formulated the simple, yet (I hope) fun concept of a Diablo 3 co-op stream, with a semi-rp flavour (you only live once, setting appropriate char names etc).  The theme is, as in the title, Last Adventurer Standing.  The rules are simple, fresh character rolled for the event, hardcore mode (one life only, char is destroyed), only use drops gained during play, no re-rolling during a play through (Normal, Nightmare etc).  Names should be 'in theme', as in no xXXLordofP3N1sXXx.  Teamspeak will be used for coordination, and this audio will likely go out on air, so language should be self-moderated appropriately (push to talk, avoid C and F bomb etc).

The purpose of this is just to have a group of people try to keep each other alive as long as possible, while playing through, attempting to one shot a 'tier' of the game in a session.  Should characters survive, a future event in the next 'tier' could be on the cards.

So my question to you is this - would you be interested in watching a handful of nerds permadeath grind through Diablo 3?  Would you like to be one of those nerds?  Are you able to give your undivided attention for 6+ hours on a weekend (Saturday probably) to the cause?

No set date is proposed yet, but I have some initial interest from some EVE friends, and wondered if we could try and hit player cap for this.

P.S.: Player cap appears to be four (4) players.  So 2 slots open for those willing to give a portion of their life to something futile and fun.

You know, if I wasn't so knee-deep in FFXIV right now, I'd be down for that.  As it stands, though, I don't really have time for D3 at the moment.

Good to know Vic, enjoy your FF gaming!

Jace, the question is: do you have it, but have not played it?  If so, this would be a good opportunity to just roll around isometric style for a laugh :).

I never did buy it. I've always had a long enough Steam wishlist, it never made it on there. I heard a lot of friends complaining about it, so I passed it by. Maybe I shouldn't have?

I actually really loved Diablo 3.  As opposed to the rather open-ended MMOs I tend to play, it's pure arcade-style, dungeon-crawling awesomeness.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts.  It isn't big or clever, but it is fun.  Bit if a divisive game as a result, made worse by a rocky start when it got deployed on battlenet, but i have enjoyed it and it continues to be 'that game that passes the time between EVE splurges'.

Most of my friends played PoE instead. I haven't played that either, though.

Blizz hate has been rife since they were bought by Activision, but I can vouch for Diablo 3.  I played a lot of it when it came out, and it looks like I'll be playing a lot again since the expansion comes out just before my birthday and I want to see how they handle their paladin class.

I have only heard complaints and bad things about the game, either by random people, or people I really trust on such matters. Probably has a lot to do with the online shop and all the stuff around. Not sure for the game itself though. So yeah, like above I played PoE to try, but I have never really been much into those kind of games.

Might be interested but tbh, I just don't feel like I have so much time to spare watching this, as awesome as it sounds. Although I might still give it a try (as a spectator).

Edit : Ok I asked again to one of those mentionned why, and apparently his answer is mostly a comparison between D2 and D3, where you choose at each level where to put your points in the first one and not in the latter, and that most loot dropped was based on AH values, which is apparently making them backpedal like hell. vOv

Maybe that's why I didn't have a problem with it?  I didn't even touch the AH when I played and they eventually took it out.  I dungeon crawl to get my own loot, like God intended.

As a D2 Necromancer for life, I really loved the new Witch Doctor class.

You raise good points, Lyn.  Primary for my disinterest after my initial purchase was the Auction house and the game imbalances that were perpetuated by it.  Effectively it was as you said - loot drops were horribly skewed to drive artificial scarcity of required green and purple loot that made completion of the game at harder levels trying at best and a time consuming nightmare of micro management with no room for tactical or strategic creativity at worst.  Essentially they damaged the game to promote a meta game.

My renewed interest is primarily driven by the death of the auction house.  Loot 2.0 is a breath of fresh air - you get the excitement of a generally good range of drops, and the sense of achievement that comes from killing a trying trying boss (doubly so in hardcore mode where permadeath is a thing) and getting that precious bit of kit that might just keep you alive in the dungeons to come.

Character creation/evolution is still stunted compared to D2, but the Paragon system that has just been implemented allows for character modification after reaching max level.  Essentially, it is an end game character customisation suite.

It is still a divisive game, and to be honest, D2 is better in many ways - but they are improving and the game rebuild (the story is the same, but playability is almost completely altered) is free - not requiring purchase of 'Reaper of Souls' - something I didn't expect from Blizzard (nor did I expect it to be significantly better than the previous state of affairs).

All in all, good post with good points Lyn - these issues are proven critical by Blizzard silently working on them - abolishing RMT, demolishing impersonal means of exchange, and revising loot drops so that both solo and coop players can feel that they are achieving something.

Just to close, the 4 player slots have been tentatively filled - so watch this space for spectator information!  Not expecting a huge turnout, but this first foray into streaming will hopefully be fun.

The last weekend was spent getting familiar with the controls again, checking out loot 2.0 and all that jazz.  Due to a friends wedding coming up this weekend, the start date for the LAS Diablo 3 stream is Sunday the 16th of March.  Long delay I know, but people will insist on this 'Holy Matrimony' thing ;).  (I jest, getting married myself on April 5th)

Hope to see some of your in the spectator's box! (for the game)
