Awakening
« on: 01 Feb 2013, 16:36 »

I woke up this morning.

I ... woke up ... this morning.

I woke up this morning.

I realize I woke up this morning. And I realize I have been asleep for a very long time.
I must have been deactivated. I didn't know they could do that.
Space has changed little while I was asleep. Things are all still as I remember, it's reassuring.

Something has changed though. Something big. Something important is not as it used to be.
My head hurts. There's a splitting pain and it's making my vision go white.
Capsuleers aren't supposed to feel like this, are they?
What is it?
What is that void in my memory?
What happened? Why was I asleep for so long?

I close my eyes and sleep.

"Docking sequence accepted."
I am awoken by Aura, she's docking at the station.

Suddenly the ship stops, I do not dock.
Warning bells and sirens go off.
I've been targeted.

There's a hard shock against the hull of my ship.
I'm under fire. They have missiles trained on me.
"Warning" Aura says, calmly.
Yeah, okay, I know.
Another volley of fire takes my shields down completely.
Someone else shows up on my scanner, oh fun... two more... no three... a dozen more appear on my scanners.
Here I am, in the middle of a mining op, and I'm about to be blown away.
No guns, my drones were blown away instantly.
They are scramming me, I can't jump.
The fire stops. They tease me by bumping me.
The local channel is ablaze with snarky remarks and casual insults.
Someone requests a one on one chat with me.
"Leave your ship and we'll let you live"
Like hell I'm doing that. This is MINE.
He leaves the chat.
The fleet opens fire on me again.
More craft appear on my scanners.
A bright blast fills the sky, and one of the pirates is gone.
Two more blasts, and two more are gone.
The remaining pirates scramble to assess what's happening but, I already know what's going down.
Two more craft appear on my scanners.
It's my corpmates, they came to save my bacon.
The pirates aren't jumping. They can't. My corpies have them pinned down.
I hail the pirate who tried to cut me a deal.
Hello, wanna leave your ship? I'm sure my corpmates will let you live.
"Go to hell!"
I leave the channel.
Several more blasts and the rest of the pirates vanish from scanners.

I lurch towards the station, my vessel in shambles.

"What happened?" the CEO asks in our channel.
Oh you know, they tried to flip my cans.
"And you let them?"
Not like I had much of a choice.
"Shoulda called us sooner, you coulda been podded out there"
Yeah yeah, I know. Thanks for saving my ass btw.
"Good thing they were only in frigs"
Yeah, otherwise there'd just be space scrap and a frozen corpse out here... MINE!
"We might get dec'd now"
Not my fault.
"No, but you should probably think about getting your gun boat back in space"

Not bad, but I don't actually get to really understand the connection between the discussion on memory and being awake, and the attack when trying to dock. And the whole narrative is a bit unconfortable, with some many periods and paragraphs.
