I've long felt that, while we do get new ships every now and then, the weapons systems of said ships have been largely creatively neglected. In short, we've been shooting the same shit at each other since beta.

This thread proposes some new ideas for weapons. More importantly, it suggests that it's high time we got some new weapons.

I'd appreciate your support in this endeavour.

Hm, new weapon system(s) with own ammo types and variations is a great idea.

Not too keen on the idea of making it overpowered, but it would be a great addition to my imaginary 'Jovian Expansion'.

That is a good idea of course, but I can't support something that is by definition off balance gameplay wise. We already see everyone tending sometimes to use the same setups because it is what works best, after a few evolutionnary processes that naturally lead everyone to those. If you make some new weapons better than the old ones, then what is the point of keeping the old ones since nobody will use them anymore ? I know your idea makes sense on the realism side, but gameplay wise, I do not think it does.

I already hate the invention of Tech 2 and Tech 3 for that precise reason, even if it is not completely true in their cases.

What I've always wanted to see was a split of Hybrid Weapons into two different weapon systems: Railguns for the Caldari and Plasma Blasters for the Gallente. It always seemed odd to me that in the intervening years both the Gallente and the Caldari would have further developed their preferred hybrid systems but this isn't reflected in-game. I was thinking they might work something like this:

Caldari Railguns:

-Focused on long-range and accuracy/tracking.
-Lower gun sig res than normal
-Increased Kinetic damage

New short-range weapon: Flechette Cannon

- Fires a canister shot of hypervelocity kinetic flechettes/penetrators (Space shotgun :) )
- Very high tracking
- Higher optimal than other short range weapons
- Slightly lower dps
- Lower gun sig res (20-25% lower maybe?)

Gallente Plasma Blasters:

-Make blasters a short range alpha weapon by increasing damage mod and decreasing rof. They should be a scary weapon in that if you get tackled by a Gallente blaster boat you face the very real chance of vaporization on the opening shots.
-High damage mitigated by short range. No "Sniper" systems.

New Gallente long-range weapon: Plasma Cannon

-Fires magnetically contained superheated plasma
-Significantly higher damage than most long weapon systems
-Sub 100km weapons. Difficult to go above 100km even with large guns. Gallente don't need range anyway when they can melt your face.

As for weapons I'd like to see for Amarr/Minnies:

Amarr Particle Caster

-Reverse engineered from the Terran superweapon Sarum used.
-Fires arcs of high-energy
-Slightly lower damage than lasers but has the ability to arc to other targets you have locked from the target you are shooting.
-Traning increases the range and amount of targets the energy can arc to. Damage decreases with each arc from target to target.
-Amarrian ships firing holy lightning at heathens, heretics and infidels would look cool.

Minmatar Missile Storm

-Fires all missiles loaded in the launcher in a single volley with a longer reload time than Caldari launchers (Sort of like the LRM systems in battletech)
-Gives minnie ships an alpha strike version of missiles and might make split weapon minnie ships useful.
-Oh god, so many missiles.

My ideas anyway for new weapons and such.

Missile Storm should be Caldari. Space Shotgun should be minmatar.

Missile Storm should be Caldari.

Caldari could always get torpedoes with jumpdrives. The ultimate long range weapon.

Miniature cynosural fields (that don't lock down and disable the ship lighting them). Fleet of torp ravens sitting on the other side of system fit with these new jump torps. Dessie lights the mini-cyno, ravens launch all warheads, and from this tiny speck in space jump in hundreds of little torps that snake out from the point of entry - like a wormhole belching fire and death.

Well I think Zero-G were developing a jump drive that didn't need a cyno a while back so it could even work as a painting system that the torpedoes "lock on to" and jump a few km away from the target before impact.

Would make bombers even more awesome.

Weapons that project energy in a cone rather than point to point.

Weapons that you can load scripts into, to change it from a large gun to one more suited to point defense.

Weapons that build in power the longer you fire them at a single target.

Graviton beams / miniature black holes: spin ships around, bump them, move them as side effect.

etc. etc.

The point is not to have just a variation of the same weapon with a different name, but introduce actual game effects that increase tactical variety.

Remote speed boosting module AKA the reverse web.  It would, of course, reduce your own max speed when active.

Thisssssss. Simply... new options. New abilities. Shit to shake things up.

Naturally, the Eve thread has been infested by luddites and refuseniks who abhor any change to the stagnant status quo. I'd appreciate your help in beating them off.

Jump Drives are already capable of this in the prime fiction, but this is not reflected in the game mechanics. They target the massive gravity well of solar system stars for their jump coordinates.
