Ardishapur Speaking Tour [Updated 5/13]
« on: 26 Apr 2010, 11:51 »

So, there have been several news items:

Ardishapur to begin empire-wide speaking tour - (4/13)

Ardishapur focuses on ''roots of the faith'' and ''embracing new races into the traditional fold'' - (4/16)

Initial Ardishapur speaking engagements ''doing well'' - (4/26)

Aridshapur holding public court during engagements in own domains. - (5/5)

Ardishapur refutes claims he has overstepped bounds of power. - (5/10)

Calls rise for ardishapur to be given more authority - (5/13)

There was also this article a few weeks before, showing Ardishapur was already hardly camera-shy:

Yonis Ardishapur addresses badly shaken empire, sends personal fleet to assist with relief efforts - (3/25)

So, what's Ardishapur up to? I don't get the impression that building support among the populace is usually something that Heirs worry about - and he also seems to be garnering support among some holders, from the news item.

He had his sights on becoming the Emperor, such popularity building will greatly help him.

Well, it ain't a democracy, though, is it? Though some support is good and probably required - particularly among the holders, I imagine.

I'm retarded. "If he had his sights...".

But yes, it's not a democracy but an unpopular ruler is quitely dealt away with, especially if those in power don't agree with him. The commoners may be a side affect if he gets a hold on the Holders.

Actually, this is exactly the impression I got. He's got "deadmeat" stamped on his forehead, assassination I bet. Make him all seem loved by everyone et cetera before BAM, he dies and everyone gets incensed.

Have been wrong before.

But who is it that will do it, and who will it get pinned on?

I wonder whether CCP has other ideas for in-space representation of storyline events... blown-up stations and planets are cool, but we needz moar.

As a note, has it been mentioned who is the audience? For all that we know, Yonis might be talking to local Holders. Well, some commoners get to hear him, too, but that's just the cherry on top of the thing. Good morale and stuff, less likely to revolt should the Holders be more loyal to him than the Empress.

And on Yonis dying: If the tour is successful, he'd be a martyr. I assume that he's wise enough to have named a heir well in advance. His death would just mean that Ardishapur would become a lot more powerful, with a new Heir getting a big boost on the "royal martyr". Admitted, it's possible that the younger Ardishapur would be some kind of a loonie, but I'd say that it's a given that he's religious. (After all, well, Ardishapur.).

"The Mob" was at times a major factor in Roman politics, and I've always imagined this is the case in Amarr as well - the people who accompanied Brother Joshua to Kor-Azor Prime were mainly commoners.

His heir is his nephew Arim Ardishapur. He's been mentioned a few times in news posts, including the first one in this arc.

So far he's done three things: purchased the family of the disgraced Ammatar Mandate Fleet admiral after they were enslaved as punishment, stood in for Yonis when Khanid was meeting with the Privy Council, and running things while his uncle is on tour.

There is historical precedent for the Ardishapur to act upon the Will of God and get rid of unwanted Emperors.

I hope they respect that tradition and kill the abomination that is on the Golden Throne.
