Someone mentioned Tolkien nuts? Well, I have minor difficulties with explaining the callsign Mithfindel (which is Sindarin). My other characters (two active at the moment) do, however, have somewhat more appropriate names.

Justifying a literary callsign? Easy.

As I recall Earth & the Milky Way are legends in New Eden. That implies some scraps that these legends are built around. Who is to say some half remembered and completely out of context fiction isn't part of that?

Plus, unlike real life archaelogy, EVE's precursor civilisations have left relics in space. Some are possibly in semi shielded places where the environment hasn't been able to damage them too much. As long as you don't start displaying a complete IC knowledge of pre gate history they might be good for the odd scrap of information. It's how I justify using Terran names for some of my ships. Arn is an archeology fan & keeps up with the relevant academic journals.

I would not have chosen differently. Although mine is just some random 'z' characters thrown into something that wasn't making any sense to start with :)

Only complaint I have is people never know how to pronounce it for sure or what to call me till someone lets them in on it. Then 'Tyzz' just seems to work. But I also don't tend to corp hop much so once intros are made... well you get the idea.

Have to say while not perfect I think I would keep the name.

If I was going to change I would still try to pick something with an easy single syllable nick name to be used. v0v

I'm in the group of difficult to pronounce names!  But as for picking differently, I'm in two minds about that.

For roleplaying purposes I wish I'd had a more standard name, so instead the name has become the callsign and is usually shortened to Wamp when talking to people.  Wamp does have a real name but he's not ready to reveal that yet, only those closest to him know what it is... but who knows what the future holds?  ;)

On the other hand Lord Wamphyri is a name I've used in pretty much every other game I've played, so in that sense I'm glad I still have it in EVE, even if it doesn't really fit in the universe.

Now when WoD comes out, that's a whole different story, lol

I've always pronounced your name "wham-fairy."

I've always pronounced it 'Vam-fury' tbh, but being a wham-fairy has its attractions..  :D ;)

In hindsight, naming my character after a 1980s TV character dedicated to overthrowing an oppresive galactic empire probably wasn't the best of ideas.

I think my name worked out pretty well, looks and and sounds kind of Matari, not very Nordic though, more something asian or african. I typed it out and just kinda felt right.

Although, I will admit that I have no idea how "N'maro" is pronnounced  :s

I can't really remember how I came up with Kalaratiri. I know I've always liked names beginning with 'K' ( real life may have something to do with that :D ), so I sort of went from there. I'm pretty sure it was just trial and error, Kala was taken, Kylara was taken, and some other variations. The attempts got steadily longer until I found one that wasn't taken, that I liked.

Saskia was added later, when I started RP and needed a background for Kala. I really don't know how I came up with that one.

I'm pretty pleased with the names I chose on the whole, even if they're not that Minmatar (Saskia is anglo-saxon, so nearly nordic).

Plus, I have been named Kalalalalalalalalalala

Nope, don't think I've met anyone called Fisk. Unless you count while playing Mass Effect..

I might have picked a surname that was slightly easier to pronounce.

IHKS-eye-rihs. Easy if I've told you how, but isn't precisely the easiest to work out for the first time.

I've been saying Ihks-i-rihs. Or at least thinking it.
