There are actually certain circumstances where they can be useful. If you know you're going to be in nos range, and you have a cap-intensive setup, for example. Anyway, back to the topic at hand...

Like for instance a solid pulse phant setup... 2x small nos keep it running fairly long, without them? 2.5min. Tops.

Are they usually that disorganised?

Sometimes.

Is there actually any relation between how effective the response is and how many people get assimilated?

Yes, inverse. The better the capsuleer response the less waves of dropships make it before they abandon the attempts in that system. They evolve tactics periodically and shift things around a bit to attempt to sneak out a few more, but when a good resistance is put forth (like in Ation or whatever it was I was at when we had a big burst at once), then they can end very abruptly. EM managed to make enough of a showing that Tama evacuated the planet after only two waves or so, because resistance was too strong.

Two events today, one at Odatrik (Planets 5, 6, 9) ...

Odatrik was the first event that's happened while I've been online and closer than 20 jumps away, thus my first encounter.

Are they usually that disorganised?

Is there actually any relation between how effective the response is and how many people get assimilated?

Generally speaking the responding people are not an organized military. The most steady resistance we encounter is when we're in local mission hubs, or in low-sec in a local pirate corporation's backyard. Odatrik was rather big on its scale so it lead to more general disorganization than as per normal. Some new tactics were used as well, which shifted the variables.

Lillith is correct in that the size and response of Capsuleers dictates how effectively we harvest planets. The bulk normally comes before the event is actually 'live' to most people and our side of things slow down massively because of the local explosion. Assuming our NPCs do well (which is aside from smacking a deadspace T3 on the occasion), higher and regular amounts of harvesting may occur.

The actors don't seem particularly keen on letting the wormholes collapse too early from gravimetric ECM spamming, but I do wonder if our own efforts of counter-RP in local have contributed at all.

Invasion today in Trytedald

3,100,750 uplifted for the greater unity :>

We managed to deploy close to two hundred (maybe three) Tyrants on the field, with various Raveners and Hellhound escort as well.

Shout out to the EM people who showed up, I saw that Apoc get a bunch of ugly thrown its way :P

In case no one else noticed, the attack yesterday was announced on the Eve Online official facebook page. I've never seen them do that before.

Not that it's really groundbreaking, but it's new, as far as I know.

Very interesting.  I imagine this could be used to facilitate Sansha extraction of populations as well as hinder it...

Me and Doctor Illuminata dropped some spaceports on the planet and spouted in local about coordinating a defence (of course we gradually lost)...this was the result...said within seconds of announcing it...

[22:12:34] Citizen Astur  Dropship squadrons 1 through 200 reporting resistance. Deploying additional reinforcements from portals alpha and beta.

So we RP'd it out...gradually getting worn down of course...

[22:18:40] Citizen Astur  Dropship squadrons 1 through 200 returning from surface. 74% capacity.

[22:28:48] Citizen Astur  Dropship squadrons 1 through 200 returning from surface. 84% capacity.

[22:39:10] Citizen Astur  Dropship squadrons 1 through 200 returning from surface. 98% capacity. Portals secure.

No way in hell I was going to be able to engage the ebil nullsecers by myself, but I got as much enjoyment out of it as I can :D

The planetary management spaceport idea is an excellent one. Inspiring, even -- very literally.

Seriphyn mentioned it at the Second Seyllin Conference, HOWEVER, I think it was Ber Kan who was the first...he just mentioned military units without actually explicitly implying about PI infrastructure itself. I guess credit belongs to him.
