Hey
« on: 22 Jun 2012, 17:00 »

My name is Merros. I am a fairly new player, but long time role-player. I am interested in doing so in EVE. Does anyone have any links or literature so that I can acquiant myself to the lore on a deeper level. If I were to RP, it would be as a Minmatar terrorist.

Hey hey! Amarrian slaver reporting in to welcome you here!

With regard to your request - the first issue you'll find is that there is a TON of fiction for you to work through. The second issue is that fiction about your chosen subject - Matari terrorists - is only a small fraction of that. I'll try to give you a simple breakdown of all the kinds of EVE prime fiction out there, though:

Chronicles - short-short stories and infodumps about the universe. Some are related to each other, some are stand-alones.

Novellas - Nine short stories, about 4-8 times as long as a chronicle.

Novels: The Empyrean Age, The Burning Life, and Templar One. It's pretty simple to search down summaries of what goes on in these novels, so you can find that out if you don't want to buy the novels.

In-character news articles: These are the hardest to quantify, because CCP's archive of news is frankly terrible. THis is a pity, since the news articles contain lots of little tidbits that are great to read through, and add plenty of depth to the universe.

[/url=http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Timeline] , which covers the general history of the universe, and the yearly overviews - search the Evelopedia for "Year YC105", "Year YC106", etc. - which cover the years in-universe since the start of the game. They run up until YC113, or 2011.

Asking people - seriously, don't be averse to just asking people if you have lore questions. They might answer the questions themselves, or they might point you towards relevant fiction. Either way, just ask - you won't regret it.

Regarding your specific interest: I've looked over the chronicles and found several I think you might be interested in reading.

"A man of Values and Faith - written from the perspective of a Matari terrorist in the Ammatar Mandate, this Chronicle takes place shortly after the Elder Invasion of the Amarr Empire and deals with the changes wrought by the new overseer of the Ammatar Mandate.

Maleatu Shakor - biography of a former Freedom Fighter turned Republic politician.

Chained to the Sky - several slaves in Dam-Torsad, the Amarrian capital, react to an edict by the new Empress Jamyl I that all slaves of 9th generation or greater are to be freed.

Daughters of the Revolution - a grandmother tells her granddaughter of a Matari rebellion against the Amarr gone horribly wrong.

Khumaak - deals with the acts that resulted in the Amarrian burning of Arzad II and the annihiliation of the majority of the Starkmanir Tribe, which in turn kicked off the Minmatar Rebellion, and Outcast its sequel, which looks at the unique refuge for exiled Matari which has grown up in the ruins of the planet.

War Tattoos and Tattoo, both of which deal with the Matari practice of tattooing each other.

Feel free to PM or message me ingame if you have more questions about the lore or game history!

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

Check the bio for Rogue Integer as there's a link to the Lore Survival Guide in it.

And welcome!

Thanks guys :) I may rethink my character if there aren't many RPers in that area. Where would I look for RP in EVE?

No roleplayers in that area, none at all...

Out of interest, where did you start looking that led you to think you might want to play a Minmatar terrorist?

I've played both an Amarr character and a Minmatar character, so naturally, I read SOME lore on them. And what attracted me to EVE is the availability of doing things that are "illegal" in the eyes of Concord. In my past roleplaying experiences, I have played fairly extreme characters. From cannibals to pacifists. After reading all of this, I will rethink my character some.

The main point that makes me blink a bit is that you say you're not familiar with the lore but have decided on a character to play. If you're sold on it, fair play, but it might be worth looking at other possibilities too.

Freedom fighters (meaning not the ones sanctionned by the Republic and acting in the minmatar militia) have always been considered as criminals/outlaws in the eyes of CONCORD so your choice definitly fits.

Also, there have almost always been minmatar terrorist characters to my knowledge, from Ushra'Khan in the past, to people here and there. You might want to look in the direction of Murientor Tribe, also. Their radical extremist IC views could interest you, especially since recently : they seem to be active again and with a hardened mindset.

Man, if you like the Minmatar "freedom fighter" / terrorist angle, I'm going to second the suggestion to talk to the Murientor Tribe [MURIE].

I will look into that, thank you :)
