Title: I'm getting tired of this:
Post by: Graelyn on 08 Jan 2017, 09:53
Folks are talking in 'The Summit', but not 'Intergalactic Summit', where DK is.
Unacceptable!
So, in 'Out of Character' channel:

[ 2017.01.08 15:26:11 ] Mika Firestorm > Cmon peoples, three hours i was sort of online and nobody even appeared in IC channel >.< whats wrong, why nobody roleplays lately :(
 [ 2017.01.08 15:26:24 ] Mika Firestorm > 3.5 hours >.>
 [ 2017.01.08 15:26:37 ] Caroline Grace > i be in another summit :)
 [ 2017.01.08 15:26:40 ] Mika Firestorm > wake up? >.<
 [ 2017.01.08 15:26:42 ] Vincent Pryce > /emote pet pets Mika
 [ 2017.01.08 15:26:47 ] Mika Firestorm > hi Vince!
[ 2017.01.08 15:27:04 ] Graelyn > both summits have been better than average of late
[ 2017.01.08 15:27:41 ] Mika Firestorm > Well, Caroline, could you please not necro old channel? >.>
 [ 2017.01.08 15:27:58 ] Graelyn > It's the active one at this time.
 [ 2017.01.08 15:28:08 ] Graelyn > 3 hours ago, this was not the case.
 [ 2017.01.08 15:28:25 ] Mika Firestorm > Is someone speaks there atm?
[ 2017.01.08 15:28:48 ] Graelyn > look, I know you've got some bitter going there, but yes, both Summits are active these days.
 [ 2017.01.08 15:28:54 ] Caroline Grace > i dont deal with necro, i simply roleplay where ii please =D
[ 2017.01.08 15:29:10 ] Caroline Grace > sometimes its there or there or there or over there
[ 2017.01.08 15:29:14 ] Mika Firestorm > Still, is there someone speaking there?
 [ 2017.01.08 15:29:14 ] Graelyn > ^
 [ 2017.01.08 15:29:26 ] Caroline Grace > ya
 [ 2017.01.08 15:29:37 ] Mika Firestorm > who?
 [ 2017.01.08 15:30:04 ] Caroline Grace > Wren Faust, Halcyon
 [ 2017.01.08 15:30:22 ] Mika Firestorm > Who is Faust?
 [ 2017.01.08 15:30:32 ] Caroline Grace > Sahaquiel Faust dunno
 [ 2017.01.08 15:30:43 ] Graelyn > only 5 atm
 [ 2017.01.08 15:33:38 ] Graelyn > I should open a third Summit.
 [ 2017.01.08 15:33:55 ] Graelyn > More RP for everyone
 [ 2017.01.08 15:34:14 ] Sammie MacWinters > I don't think it works like that
 [ 2017.01.08 15:34:19 ] Graelyn > /emote is clearly insane
 [ 2017.01.08 15:34:28 ] Caroline Grace > first rule: No pants
[ 2017.01.08 15:35:27 ] Mika Firestorm > I know someone who would sit in you summit, Caroline :P
[ 2017.01.08 15:35:58 ] Graelyn > Oddly enough, 'OOC' channel has been more active than either IC channel in recent days.
[ 2017.01.08 15:36:41 ] Caroline Grace > i cant run big channels, gets stressful, not a reason i play this game
 [ 2017.01.08 15:37:00 ] Graelyn > It can be stressful, sure.
[ 2017.01.08 15:38:55 ] Mika Firestorm > And yep, Caroline, could you do a favor? A lot of old peoples are returning back but they don't know yet that we have now proper roleplaying channels. Send them invites here, okies?
 [ 2017.01.08 15:39:45 ] Caroline Grace > sure thingies
 [ 2017.01.08 15:39:53 ] Mika Firestorm > Thank you :3
 [ 2017.01.08 15:39:56 ] Graelyn > Oh fuck you diana
 [ 2017.01.08 15:40:06 ] Lasairiona Raske > That was a bit of a low blow...
 [ 2017.01.08 15:40:12 ] Mika Firestorm > Not by you, thank you.
 [ 2017.01.08 15:40:22 ] Mika Firestorm > And hi, Lasa! :)
 [ 2017.01.08 15:40:28 ] Lasairiona Raske > /emote grumbles
[ 2017.01.08 15:40:41 ] Graelyn > People go where they want. Sometimes it's to places where the prime advertisement is you won't be there. It's a good business to be in, apparently.
[ 2017.01.08 15:40:46 ] Caroline Grace > i always inform new player about all RP comms and it is up to them which one they will use
 [ 2017.01.08 15:41:15 ] Sammie MacWinters > So
[ 2017.01.08 15:41:20 ] Caroline Grace > doesnt mean i wont use my own biased opinion about the channels, though
 [ 2017.01.08 15:41:26 ] Sammie MacWinters > Glad you came back Grae?
 [ 2017.01.08 15:41:37 ] Graelyn > Glad to pwn some bitches, yeah
[ 2017.01.08 15:41:39 ] Lasairiona Raske > DK, don't be bitchy. A lot of these RPers have been around for a while and created some of these channels. It's rude to treat them so indifferently.
 [ 2017.01.08 15:41:44 ] Sammie MacWinters > wew

We've reached a new level of bitter.

You've discovered that DK accumulated enough salt to maintain a self-sustaining reaction over being removed for being an absolutely unrepentant waste of everyone's time and energy both in and out of character that's so far disconnected from reality that you could be called a liar for pointing out the sky is blue.

How is it living in the past, Grae? :P

Post necromancy mode engage:

[06:58:22] Diana Kim > (( The summit is dead place. But you'd like to ask these questions better in  <url=joinChannel:2100276594>Out of Character</url> ))

Kim shilling IGS/Out of Character to new players joining summit.

I don't really understand anymore why it has to be one or the other. Frankly, both have merits, but I find The Summit provides a slightly higher class of RP than the IGS. I'll RP in The Summit if I want a better response than ZOMG, stuff happened!

Just going to second Las's post that I RP everywhere I can. More choice is always good.

Plus it bemuses me people still get their panties in a twist over another player to the point they can't let go. And that's directed both ways.

Frankly, both Summits are shitholes that only occasionally have some fun and interesting discussions.  Give me a choice betwern dealing with the never-ending cycle of decrying the latest BS being propagated by Funk/Kim/Nauplius/etc and doing something else, the latter almost always wins.

Frankly, I'm -this- close to making a new invite-only RP channel, one that would improve the signal to noise ratio and actually allow for some discussions to be held without it devolving into Kim-level diatribe.

Going to either Summit is never appealing to me, which makes me sad because I want to Roleplay more. It always just feels so...shallow.

"General" style chatrooms will always devolve into low brow content. It's the nature of any space for everyday conversations.

You can limit the crowd, but all you end up doing is tightening the pool of voices. I don't think we need ever more channels, given several I'm in barely get used because of aforementioned constraints.

You can deal with trouble makers, but handpicking who gets to be in the cool club and who's quality enough just serves to make more divided echo chambers of particular RP thinking (style, not faction.) Far better be it that people stop whining about so and so person and out compete them for content, or start up a different conversation in the channels to pull attention to where you want it.

But its your time energy and effort so if you want to make a seperate channel go for it. I just think we have far too many people wanting to consume content then to bother with producing it.

I'm going to make my own RP channel called "Intragalactic Summit" where everyone but me is banned.

More seriously, the quality in both summits tends toward poor, as general chatrooms tend to. OOC ones do that too, they're guided by whatever happens to be on the minds of people that are paying attention, and when there are 20-35 people in said channel, that can lead to some incredibly disjointed conversations and/or weird flirting. Smaller channels can be better for that, but they also have the problem of low activity, and the other things that people have already mentioned.

I'm in both, and they're pretty much the only place I RP at this point(aka, I don't RP much at the moment), and I think the summit is slightly better.

There are lots of RP opportunities.  Much of which in niche channels now, do to the prevailing 'you are not doing it right' attitude of some.  But I have made a resolution to try the general population channels more, they have value and we should try harder to make them more attractive places to RP.

General channels can be quite enjoyable when certain people aren't around to disrupt them, though.  Take the indivuals I mentioned above out of the equation, and population tends to rise in them, increasing participation and conversation...  Those nights tend to be quite rare and fun...

I'm with Onzo and Syagrius.
Also, I mostly like to visit both Summits to meet new faces.

Careful, you're implying there are new characters in either of these channels that are not alts.

If the player is any good at RPing, the personality/traits/goals will be different then their other characters. So if we're staying IC these new faces are new faces.

A lot of good things have been said in this thread.  I hope we all put them into practice.

Careful, you're implying that there are no such thing as new roleplayers to EVE.

Speaking as someone who is legitimately new to this community, I'm not sure people realize just how difficult it is for the "new kids" to be interacted with. From what I've been told, it's that "everyone is an alt" belief that kicks us to the side.

There are so many groups and cliques. I don't think creating new private channels will help. It will only further divide the community. That being said, what happens when there's someone new who is trying like all hell to be involved and interact with people?

I hate to admit it, but lately I've become increasingly discouraged with trying to get involved anymore with any sort of legitimate roleplay because of this whole issue. People are generally closed off to others for fear they're an alt (which I do understand, by the way), or they aren't willing to give people a chance.

Again, I don't think further private channels will help. At least, not when it comes to legitimately new players. All that would do is shut them off even more than they already are.

For what its worth Julianni, if you see a Nihil around, feel free to say hi.  My characters tend to be nice, mostly.
Title: Re: I'm getting tired of this:

Gotta say I faced the exact same attitude when I first came on the scene that Julianni did, and I remember making not a small number of rants/lectures about it on Slack and other places. Shutting ourselves off because we don't like so and so and can't be adult enough to just ignore them and work around them doesn't help, nor does automatically assuming every character is an alt/potential troll.

So little content is being produced for wider consumption, and so few people are bothering to try to rope people in outside of BaRP. I'll admit I'm guilty of that too, but I'm not really 'playing' eve much let alone RPing so there's that. We can all do better.

We can all do better.

Agreed, but it takes the community as a whole to understand this for any progress to be made. Compared to a lot of communities I've found the one here has shrunk due to our unwillingness to bring in new blood without being overly critical of their RP.

When I first started RPing here, there was a unwritten rule. There is no urdoingitwrong, something I doubt many here remember.

I wonder if there is anyone other than myself who feels they are not getting enough criticism. My suspicion is that there may be a history of it being rendered less than constructively, hence that rule.

Forgive me for being cynical, but I've seen so many throwaway alts created for peoples vapid /sip ERP projects during my tenure here it has become rather difficult to maintain optimism when it comes to new characters doing roleplay. Real new roleplayers who will contribute in-channel and ingame are definitely the exception to the rule.

Semi-private/walled channels where the topic is focused and troublemakers can be reined in can work very well, but risk turning into circlejerking. There's a fine balance and I've yet to see anywhere that manages it well for more than a few months.

Very few roleplay projects anywhere online last, in my experience. Collaborative world-building and roleplay exercises that run smoothly and last for years are a rare exception, and even they tend to wax and wane cyclically.

It's almost always going to be smaller groups focusing on more-or-less independent projects; it's almost never going to last forever, or even very long. I think if you and some friends can manage a few months, crank out some texts and logs, and meanwhile stay more or less connected and more or less friendly with the general outside world, you're actually doing great.

I'm curious about the OOC perceptions about my char, so feel free to send me your "urdoingitwrong" critique, even if you eve-mail it with an alt.
For a long time, this quote of mine was preceded with "I haven't really gotten much, if any, criticism on my char and RP". I still feel like the people who don't like my char/style refrain from offering personal criticism.

A lot of the things stated in this thread thus far are why I am very rarely seen interacting IC ingame or on the IGS these days, and am instead finding myself devoting the energy that I would have once put towards roleplaying in EVE, towards roleplaying in Black Desert.

If that was directed at me, Jev, it feels like you are getting offended on purpose when you should know full well that my comments have got very little to do with most people here (yourself included), and far more to do with a few specific individuals whose behavior and attitudes result in an environment that requires me to put in an unreasonable (and frankly, unfair) amount of energy just to get a chance at getting anything meaningful back out of the system, so to speak. I'm already dealing with an incredibly shitty RL situation; the last thing I really need to deal with is people stressing me out in a game where I'm trying to relax and detach/distract myself from said situation.

On top of that, if I actually had anything to do that didn't conflict with prior obligations, I'd be around more often. But I don't, so most of my time is spent where I get a much more favorable return on my investment.
