I haven't checked these in a loooong time, I've not been paying a lot of attention to this. But...heh...by some stroke of luck, my standings suit the character quite well.
Ché never seems to have fired upon Sanshas, even when Ché was less neutral and pacifistic. But being perfectly neutral in their eyes (as well as being largely neutral with most factions, and best relations with SSoE) does fit my character well, so I think my standings are pretty good. :D
I do think Ché's standings with the Legion and Syndicate should be better, and worse with Roden. :ugh:

I'm at 9.32 with Cal State (And have been since I last spent much time running missions. A while ago.)
Also have 3.46 with the Jove Empire. Not sure if what it's derived from.

standings is one of those old mechanics since eve inception that hasnt got any real changes....would love to create a whole expansion/patch focused on LP store + standings + station services + faction loyalty....would be quite nice.

The best standings ? Not me, but i'm pretty well around all factions. Never had the time to fully get Minmatar back to positive, but lol, already made it up by like +4.0... Which killed a bit the Amarr and Caldari side but well...

I run missions for all four navies, and I only do Gallente and Amarr storyline missions. I do not accept missions against empire factions.

:eek: @ Joshua Foiritain's criminal standings. Those must take a lot of work.
One of the things that ticks me off with standings is how the min/gal side can really only run up 3 factions (gal/min/soe) try any others and you end up taking hits, because I wanted Thukker standings the only way I can now increase Gal is to do the epic arc's every so often. I run normal storylines and I'll take a Thukker hit.
The amarr/cal side can easily run 5 factions without taking hits, amarr/cal/khanid/ammatar/mordu. Hell I think if you run enough amarr missions you will end up with an ammatar faction standing ABOVE your amarr.

I hear way back in eve if you reached to like 8.50 with a faction you would be given a free blueprint of a navy frigate, then a navy cruiser at a higher standing, then finally a free navy battleship blueprint...

Actually the offers were completely unrelated to standings. Each mission gave you LP, after each X missions (1, 2 or 5 or something?) you'd get sent an offer for random LP item X that was priced within the range of Your Total LP-Y% to Your Total LP. Offers were valid for 7 days and usually required (at the time) fairly rare officer tags.
So if you wanted a navy frigate you would have to acquire for example 50.000 LP and then only do missions that paid out very little LP to cycle through the offers as you rejected the ones you didnt want, if you acquired too much LP the frigate would fall outside the offer range and you'd have to accept something else and start over.

The Cosmos agents that give out ship BPC's once you get enough faction standings are still around.

I think it's unadjusted standing, though. At least, I only ever got the cruiser and the frigate. Also, way back in the day they didn't have LPs and missions would just give out random junk (trade items, stacks of low end BPOs, actual garbage, whatever) and occasionally you would get an implant or something either from a storyline type mission or from looting certain missions. Later on (still before LPs) missions started giving out tech 2 components - though I think that was before most people had anything they could use them for because there wasn't invention yet.

But in truth I hate pve/missioning so my standings are all fairly subpar.

I ground a lot of 8.00+ standings for jumpclones, and then they removed the requirement. Hrr. For that matter my industrialists have ground highsec POS standings as well. Other than that, I can't really say much about my standings other than... err... my Amarr standings are probably somewhere near absolute zero.

I can't remember who it was that actually believed Aldrith had approached me to recruit me. Dame maybe. Props to Aldrith for immediately playing along when I told him publicly that while the invite was appreciated, I just couldn't in good conscience leave U'K. It's a rare thing that chat in Eve leaves me breathless with laughter.

coincidentally, i once wrote a small proposal in FHC game design about reworking the standings mechanics to take into account the following:
government/military -> count towards the faction standing and reduces standing with opposing factions.
commerce/trading -> count towards corporations within the same bloc, reduces standing with competitor corporations in other factions, yet it does not increase/reduce faction standings.
Each bloc also would have unique LP stores.
that way people can work with specific groups of NPC corporations and have different outcomes in standing.

I think for that to work they'd need to rework the standing system entirely, because it simply has no actual purpose at this point beyond very slightly affecting your profit margins when trading/refining.
This is a wholly unformed thought/idea, but I'd love to see something like increasing the amount of services available at a corporation's stations depending on standings, along with different efficiency ratings of said services as you rise in prominence until you reach VIP levels of fame with them. Add a thirty-sixty second delay for repairing your ship in a station (as an example), reduced by standings and so on and there'd be implications for fleets in FW space, etc.

Currently it's unmodified standings:
8.5 for Navy frigates
9.2 for Navy cruisers
9.9 for Navy battleships
At each tier you trade 30 pirate tags of the main faction enemy (silver for frigates, gold for cruisers, diamond for battleships) for a 2-run ME20 BPC. Amarr standings get you Navy Slicers, Navy Omens and Navy Apocs, Caldari give you Hookbills and ?? as I haven't gotten the upper tiers of that yet. Only the four major factions (Amarr, Caldari, Gallente and Minmatar) give out those rewards.

That actually could be very interesting.
Perhaps all stations have limited availability of certain VIP services (special labs, factory, refining) but you only get access to them once you reach 9.0 or higher....could be quite interesting.

I get the feeling that there were plans to have standings impact a lot more on the gameplay, but other more important things came up and they just kind of drifted into the forgotten area of development. The current crop of dev's seem to have no interest in them and have I believe actually removed standings from some aspects (jump clones and POS placement).
Seems such a shame.

I just remember something about a fleet checking someone's standings all at once to lag out the node. (not sure *relevant*) .. so.. they kiiinda are still there but.. yeah.
