Title: Anyone Have experience extracting textures from the EVE client?
Post by: Saede Riordan on 18 Dec 2014, 15:02
I want to make a sort of 'Atlas' for the Origin system, draw cities and roads and such all over it, but I've no idea how to get the planet textures out of the game and into a usable flat format.

If someone can help with this process, I could pay you, or maybe let you name some cities and stuff.

The planet textures are generated with code in real-time. There are no whole textures. You can rip out the pieces that make up the textures but I have no idea how to rip the code or generate it. I looked through Triexporter and found the pieces in

/res/texture/planet/

I think the code to generate the planet textures are in

/res/planetattributes/

but I don't know how to read the .region files. vov

If it helps, here (http://laps.noaa.gov/albers/sos/sos.html) are some hi-res planet maps that you could possibly use.

If I were you, I would take snapshots of all six sides of each planet with max graphics settings on and combine them into a map yourself.

Sorry I couldn't help more, good luck!
