Title: Fanfest 2015
Post by: Demion Samenel on 30 Nov 2014, 10:40
So anyone heading to the Island this year? I pretty sure Morwen is but I for one would not say no to a beer or similar to talk lore or what not.

Still need to sort hotel and airplane shit, actually, but my actual FF+events tickets are purchased.

Yeah same here, FF tickets are set, not airplane tickets yet. We got our 10man apartment prel-booked, but a few will not join this year.

I chose Fanfest instead of the new computer two years in a row.

It paid off.

Yea a PC might be first hand to get, pretty important, Im happy to have a decent isk flow atm so last FF I bought my computer while be on FF.

Well if its totally frakkes up for you Makoto, we might have a bed over in the apartment. Not 100% sure of the price but last times around 180$ for a week.

Sounds pretty reasonable. I'd be down. Do you have specific dates? If so, then I can see about plane tickets to match. Otherwise, I'm debating an extended Iceland stay so that I can hike about a bit, enjoy hot springs, etc, or else run off to Britain for a while to check out museums, etc.

Looking increasingly likely that I'll be there but I have some things to work out, like moving. Good news is that where I'm moving to has cheap-ish direct flights.

Bought the event ticket long ago.

Ticket is booked. Hotel & flights are also sorted.

I'm going out on Monday the 16th so I can explore Reykjavik a bit first. I'm also bringing a partner with me on one of the SoE tickets.

Do people want to meet up? If so where & when?

Well, its 11 or so days to fanfest and in Iceland we have Snow... well mostly it might rain later, based past two weeks... but that'd be predictable and Iceland's weather doesn't do that.

But yeah atm it snow.

This has been you're near fanfest weather report from a bored of waiting Icelander.

Weather permitting (and assuming the island doesn't blow up) I'll be flying out on the afternoon of the 16th. I'm staying at the Leifur Eiriksson hotel with a (non EVE playing) friend who is booked up on a SoE ticket.

See some of you there, hopefully.

So, that Valkyrie trailer.

Did anyone else feel that the ships actually felt a little... small? Jumbo jet-sized frigates seemed only slightly larger than or cramped little one-man fighter, and everything else seemed wierdly off-scale from there.

That stuff all looked great to me, should be a welcome change.

I think keynotes should be for the big sell though, the daring to dream kind of stuff that gets you pumped for potential expansions and gameplay down the line.

The audible sploosh though when Quant took the stage... and the data presentation was well done, too.

Seems like the big players are getting the TLC this year, probably long overdue.

Very cool that the player lore speculation made it into the drifter trailer!

It seemed like a weird blurring of ooc with IC cgi trailer to me, I kind of like them separate? But yes cool for players to be in a trailer for sure!

Confirming the audio from the trailer is taken from our Rhea lore panel; the cameos in the Scope video from last month are from the Tiamat lore panel a few months after that one.

I am not entirely sure that I had any audio in the trailer; there's been mixed reports of it. It's possible some people are confusing my voice with someone else's, probably Mark's.

Still :smug: as fuck though. :3

It helps if you watched Hilmar's opening to Fanfest, where apparently the current company mottos are all about "No more 'vision' and talking about the future. Less talk, less promises. Only progress."

I thought it was interesting that he admitted during this that Fanfest on the whole is really good at promising things that never come true. One of his slides was a pic from the 'a future vision' trailer and he seemed to refer to it as a failure.

We don't have any yet beyond what little has been discussed here.  Though Makoto reports that Delegate Zero has stated: "Comparing the Takmahl to the Sani Sabik is like saying the Roman Empire still exists because the Roman Catholic Church does."  Again cryptic, but it puts some distance between the Takmahl and what the Sani are today.
Title: Re: Fanfest 2015
Post by: Arkon Sarain on 21 Mar 2015, 17:43
So when people say "revolution in Amarr" it isn't anything to do with the internal politics of the Amarr Empire (as far as we can tell at present), i.e. between the royal families, etc.? And more to do with the ongoing struggle between the Amarr Empire and the Sani Sabik?

As a side note this is just another time I curse my living about as far from Iceland as you can physically get >.>
Title: Re: Fanfest 2015
Post by: Aelisha on 21 Mar 2015, 17:57
No that Sani point is completely unrelated, just another example of one line commentary we may see built upon in the near future.  As Seagull made clear in the closing ceremony, storyline is taking centre stage again and they are very pleased with the Scope reports and feedback to date.

Not much to go on, I like though that CCP have the more cryptic thing going on, I myself dont want the full story fleshed out. But yeah there is talk about a returned "live event" player group that might help out a very underfunded CCP for events. But there approch and it seems that they are getting better with the tools which makes it possible for new stuff to be out, new AI and such. But information wise its hinted but you all seen the scope news so next big thing is on Tuesday. Personally I have not had any interest in WH or been able to exploration some juicy details I leave to Makoto.

Well if that is so it would be very disappointing. There is already tons of lore and stuff around the relationship between Amarr and Sani Sabik... :/
Title: Re: Fanfest 2015
Post by: Aelisha on 22 Mar 2015, 03:46
The relationship between Sani and the Amarr remains as is afaik, unless the upcoming events push them closer apart or further together.  I should have edited my post better to make it clear that Delegate Zero's comment to Makoto is an entirely separate point.

To reiterate my earlier, sleep-hazed post more clearly:

1. Demion states that FW might become a fatal four way and we get to see the start of 'something' going in in the Empire as of Tuesday (possibly)

2. Makoto bumps into Delegate Zero at the party - Zero makes that independently standing comment about the relationship between the Takmahl and the Sabik

Sorry for the confusion.

Ael: I think either you misunderstood Demion or he misunderstood Affinity/etc. - pretty sure that the implication is that we would see ~things~ start to happen after Tuesday but not any specific storyline (such as FW/Empire/State stuff, which should start to appear over the next couple of months and culminate in FW changes in the second half of the year).

Title: Re: Fanfest 2015
Post by: Lyn Farel on 22 Mar 2015, 10:29
FW 4 ways won't change much imo, except IC wise. Both FW areas are too far away for it to really matter. The only times it did that I can think of were when one faction was so badly losing and annihilated that the other overwhelming one came to the help of his ally.

Which was a good way to prevent full stuck up situations gameplay wise, by the way...

Generally speaking the cure is a proactive and pre-emptive one.

Vitamins, electrolytes, eating well, and washing your hands regularly. Sleeping properly helps too, but that one's a bit harder than the rest during Fanfest at least.

I appear to have dodged it entirely this year which is awesome. I could use not having to deal with that shit on top of everything else on my plate at home that I didn't get a chance to process or deal with before I had to leave for Iceland.

I'm mostly teasing, to be fair - but the first couple of days after a release are always full of people rushing around trying to fix any issues that took a deployment to TQ to uncover, so I tend not to expect events in the first few days after a major patch by default. :)
