What it says on the tin: what resource, video, song, celebrity, whatever did you have in mind (if any) when you came up with your mental picture of your character's voice? Since you - the reader - are the ultimate authority on your character's voice, here would be a good place to slap someone and say "this is how it be, k???" Thread for linking said resources, or finding things that sound like it. I want to imagine a more vocal Summit, damnit.
Song related. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRxt1tX-8VE) It's how I imagine Charles sounds: a bit higher pitched than most with a rather wonderful singing voice. What about you nerds?

I got dibs on Morgan Freeman! (Not really)
I've never actually really thought about a voice for Drak. I've always been more worried about mannerisms, outward appearance, motivation and such. I think if pressed, he would sound a bit like me but maybe with a hint of an Arabic/Middle Eastern accent. He's also quite a smart-alec so toss in the occasional mocking tone or joke voice too.
-
Just a polite nudge, I'm pretty sure there's 2 threads already with this exact topic.
Mods can work their thread-melding voodoo maybe?

Unless I was to necro a post from more than a year ago, I can't find any recent posts on anything like this ; __; I'll get this taken away somehow or something

I imagine Saede would talk like this (http://sage-brush.tumblr.com/post/53926866439/reference) actually. She's from the edge of lowsec, its doubtful she has a very 'refined' tongue.
-
Bay more or less sounds like me. Might have a slight Japanese accent, but it would only some out when she is mad or swearing.
-
I imagine Veik has a voice like Joan Jett.
She loves rock and roll.
-
Uma Thurman (http://cdn.sheknows.com/filter/l/gallery/the_bride_2.jpg), for obvious reasons.

Officially we don't have a problem with it if someone wants to necro a thread to continue the discussion rather than creating a new one. Of course, you do so at your own risk, since people posting silly thread-necro images in response is also not something we have a problem with. :P
If people think a thread merge is warranted, the appropriate thing to do is to report the thread and ask for one; a moderator will look into it when they have the time to go finding the original.

To be honest I don't much care if we go with old thread or new thread myself.
If I remember correctly I always figured Arnulf should sound like Jurgen Prochnow.
For reference try this scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW4tjKzDEDU) from The English Patient.
I never attempted a German accent on voice comms though. Too many German and northern European corpies for that most of the time. Would have come over as mockery I suspect.

Nice choice! I think that guy does some voice work for the Company of Heroes 2 pc game...

I'm with Saede. I originally wrote this character to be a bit backwater with strong clan ties to Molden Heath. As a result, I've kind of got this Inland South / West Texas sound in my mind, mixed with Whedon's Rim World hodgepodge.
Maybe something akin to Kaylee's diction with Zoe's tone and timbre. Of course that only comes out if you're having a face-to-face in Vherokior.
-
S has been a mix between the voice talent's of Denise Poirier from "Aeon Flux" (good example of voice here: http://youtu.be/WG9Nj0zCNOY?t=6m16s)
and of course Atia from HBO's "Rome"
Never mind the content of the link here but her tone and delivery is so fun.

Go necro for mine.

Softspoken rasp, with deliberate cadence and enunciation. In close conversation, just a bit louder than a gravelly whisper.
(See Keythe Farley / Thane Krios)
-
Does someone have a link of the old topic(s) ?
-
I can see what you mean about the other threads, I only managed to find one by searching the word "cockney".
In any case, MIND-SHATTERING LINKS

By now a thread meld would probably be moot, more so since one thread is ever so slightly different. Enjoy your walk through history.

Ah... for this one... let's see...
Yuni = Either Lexa Doig (andromeda), or Summer Glau (firefly era)... probably Lexa if i'm honest.
Rok = Adam Duritz (counting crows)
Don't really think i thought of a specific voice for my matari characters.
-
Anya's voice is Nico De Guillo (formally of Star Fucking Hipsters) normally and Stza when she is angry..
So like this.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HKawVqCK3o (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HKawVqCK3o)
-
I said Katey Sagal in the other thread but that was more about mannerisms. I imagine that in pitch and timbre she sounds more like Wendee Lee in her more serious roles.
-
I think Ajoli would probably have the voice of Milla Jovovich.
-
Muuuuultiiiiiiiiiipaaaassssss.

You hear a electronic drone whenever Elmund actually uses voice mode. Because that's how he speaks when he uses voice mode....through electronics, receiving signals from the implant in his Broca's Area. As for how he sounds like if he speaks to someone in the flesh, well...low tone with a bit of a rasp because he hasn't really used his voicebox all that much for too long.

Oh, I really like that. A lot, actually.

This too ; __;

Ava sounds very Russian in my mind; no idea why, she just does. Always imagined her sounding very much like Maria Arkhipova - complete with phenomenal singing voice.
Kyllsa, OTOH, just seems like she has a "softer" tone. Maybe like Eivør Pallsdottir.

Christian bale as batman.
Or Join from morrowind.
More or less gravelly as fuck.

VEIK GOD
The horror.

Jiub.

I also like to point out that when using his larynx, Elmund speaks slowly. Much slower than when he speaks via implants. His voice becomes hoarse after fifteen minutes of continuous conversation, which he can remedy by drinking a glass of water. He carries his Republic Military School Thermos filled with water whenever he goes out for a stroll for this reason.

Jiub.
Yeah. Stupid shitty android ruinin' muh spells

I always pictured Jurou to be voiced as Rhod Gilbert (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OISGykO6Z7U)
-
Frank Pritchard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M87xBxsccQ8) all daaaaaaaaay.
I want Pritchard's turtleneck and leather jacket for Andreus as well.

Katrina: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3wxrZ8FJmQ A young Meryl Streep, 30 years old.

So I have to semi-retcon this.
<rant>
One of my favorite games of all time, and certainly the best MOBA or team-based game I've ever played, a game called Dawngate, was shut down by EA last month. The game was barely a blip on anyone's radar because it never exited beta and EA never gave it anything more than a minimal budget. I only found it because TotalBiscuit did a WTF Is on it a few months before he probably should have. It never even got to the point of implementing a draft mode, but the competitive scene was growing and the game had an excellent community.
It was EA's piss-poor attempt at emulating the success of League and Dota. I say piss-poor not because the game was in any way bad, in fact the team behind the game made a point to disallow EA bigwigs from meddling with their game design or monetization model. It was a piss-poor attempt because EA somehow thought it should be as big as League or Dota before it came out of beta. Well thought out, idiots.
Anyway, </rant>. The game was amazing.
I played the hell out of this game over six months and racked up several hundred wins. The game was amazing for being the first MOBA to ever give a single shit about lore. There was an on-going webcomic, the characters in-game would talk to and taunt each other automatically, and the community could vote on what direction they want to take the heroes (changing things like kit development). The lore itself was written by Chris L'Etoile of pre-Mass Effect 3 Mass Effect fame.
I gave Kyoko the third name Raina in honor of my favorite hero and this game shutting down.
Raina is/was pretty much everything Kyoko would be if she lived in a fantasy setting: whip smart, open-minded, brazen, great at playing defense, devoted above all else to her friends, and not beyond a great deal of trolling other people for shits and giggles. She was voiced by a seriously talented actress and as such this is what I imagine Kyoko Raina Sakoda sounds like. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQt6YsFaRlk)
edit: Also, it had a great soundtrack. (https://soundcloud.com/waystone-games/dawngate-shaper-select)

Hevaima: German Scar (http://youtu.be/EC9Pkz9dPMU?t=1m46s)

Kerry Washington. Hard to find good video of her angry or cold voiced like Aya is but
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8dhV4-0rXo8#t=44 is a pretty good example. Also lol scandal

Everyone who posted in this thread, including me, are voiced by Steve Blum.

Thal's voice

Kate Higgins
Though as per Tib SteveBlum would most defenately be a close 2nd ._. ...
-
I've always heard Arkon as Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady, that wonderful accent that you'd swear is smirking and chuckling with every sound uttered but never indelicately so.
-
Pretty sure I've posted in a thread similar to this before...but I imagine Kor's voice to be similar to this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIVytV5258A), perhaps with a slight increase in the British accent (because, let's face it, British people make the best bad guys...not that Kor is a bad guy...or is he*cue dramatic music*).

Zhang Ziyi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhang_Ziyi)
... who, by some odd coincidence, is also who'd be playing Aria if there were ever a movie.
