Title: Iain M. Banks is dying

Iain M. Banks has added a lot to the world of science fiction, and I know a lot of people here read and enjoy his words, both as Iain M. Banks and Iain Banks.

Post by: Wanoah on 08 Apr 2013, 23:18: Gutted tbh. Banks is one of my favourite authors and a decent chap too. I loved his books as Iain Banks as well as the science fiction books as Iain M Banks. The Wasp Factory was an astonishing debut, and while not much of his later work matched that for the sheer shock value, he far exceeded it in terms of ideas and character as he grew as a writer.

Also, I fucking love The Culture. It's exactly my kind of utopia-but-not-quite-really and if I'm honest, it has gone some way to shaping my ideas of what we should aspire to as a species.
