Title: INFERNO (Chronicle)
Post by: hellgremlin on 26 May 2012, 20:09

It's like they looked into my mind, and found the thing I most desired. A drug that allows your mind's potential to be unbound.

In one chronicle I have faith restored.

Brilliant.

And then causes your mind to melt into a fine paste.

I really liked this chronicle, for various reasons.

I would've been more pleased if it wasn't Magical Jovian Space Dust, because it would've been such a lovely, human thing for us to've come up with.. but I'm not going to look too deep into the horse's mouth.

As Morwen can attest, my first reaction to seeing that there was a chronicle with this title -- unfortunately -- boiled down to "oh god".

I was pleasantly surprised, though. It was well written, entertaining, and the concept of the drug is very EVE. I'm in two minds about what Jev says, though; on the one hand, yeah, it would have been particularly fitting for the current civilisations to come up with. On the other, I love the themes of "playing about with technology no-one can really figure out" that EVE has -- strategic cruisers, rogue drones, and so on. I think Lallara and I were discussing it in another thread? I know the trope isn't for everyone, but it sits well with me.

It was a good read. You could feel the frustration of the protagonist, and it was interesting to follow how he changed his mind. The way the protagonist solved a physics/engineering challenge was slightly immersion breaking for me, no amount of intelligence or brain power could have helped him if there were too many unknowns. But perhaps this wasn't the case here.

so, uhm, i noticed this on the FHC forums

Avagher Xarasier / R&D   Required standing: 5,0
Corporation: Duvolle Laboratories
Station: Fricoure VIII - Moon 3 - Duvolle Laboratories Factory
System: Fricoure (0.8) - Region: Sinq Laison - Faction: Gallente Federation
Locator Service: No
Agent type: Research Agent

Research Fields:
Gallentean Starship Engineering
High Energy Physics
Hypernet Science

Quantum Physics

interesting, i guess they will be removing him from the game in 2-3 years right?

Nice find from the FHC forums.
And no, he will still be in game in 5 years....

Also, Istvaan - the person in the Chrons graphic made me think of you instantly for some reason

Very good read.

Reminded me of some of the stories I was reading in 2009 and 2010.  In particular the one where a skilled hacker got his brains picked, so to speak...

But perhaps this wasn't the case here.
"The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long."
"Icarus getting too close to the sun."

All tropes, but used brilliantly here.

Plus there's precedence (http://community.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=379291) for what is in this chronicle dating back prior to Empyrean Age. This is made of pure, unadulterated, intoxicating and mind-shattering winsauce.

I am 99% sure this isn't just dehydration from flu symptoms talking either.

Very good read, but the one and only disappointment was how the two who tricked him into taking the drug pretty much got away with no real punishment.

Being incinerated to nothing inside a sun in the span of two miliseconds is far too good for what they have done.

Noticed the agent the same evening as the chron. Someone brought up the idea on "how many people of the same name are there, poor them if they are on a ship using the microjumpdrive", and I promptly checked if there was a character named that ingame. Turned out he is an agent. Funnily enough, the agent did not have an ingame portrait though there is a portrait for him in the database. (Not only me bugged - someone else also confirmed this.)

The agent's sister (I think) is a part of the Sisters Epic Arc.

Same coat, same colours, similar posture - noticed it too. Great. I share taste in suits with a poor person. Eww.

To me, it reminded of Trebor (https://gate.eveonline.com/Profile/Trebor%20Daehdoow (https://gate.eveonline.com/Profile/Trebor%20Daehdoow). Same bald, similar beard.

Either that or somewhere along the line, you where actually there and may or may not have had something to do with it, and just to troll CCP you left your picture at the scene.

But yes, you do share tastes with poor people, where is thy monocle!?

I'm saving my Aurum for when CCP realizes how brilliant it would to add the old Deteis business suits or the Civire shoulder thing from pre-incarna.

Eh. I wasn't a huge fan of the chron, even though I like the tropes and the darkness. But :sleepers: as the rationale for the new modules while not even touching the changes to wardecs or FW? It seems like the obvious storyline hooks got ignored to hang a coat on the doorknob instead.
