I was pretty impressed with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TzqeI4tqpE

Looks good. The problem with EVE is that there is no sense of location (new nebulaes hopefully fix that). Freelancer was awesome in this regard as the more exotic systems were miles away from the safety of the easy areas. Gave the universe some SCALE.
EVE isn't really a spaceship game anyway. PvP combat you stay zoomed out looking at a spreadsheet [/bittervet]

I played around with the beta of BP.
Wasn't really that impressed - the controls were klunky, there was really no proper tutorial or reference for how to do things, and it was utterly impossible without a joystick (or two) because you couldn't crank the mouse sensitivity up high enough.
Pretty, yes, but not so much in the gameplay from the week or two I was putzing with it. Might still be able to log in, dunno.

Oh look. The game has an in-game encyclopedia about the universe.
/me looks at CCP.
The game is open beta, EVE has been out for almost 10 years...

Black Prophecy looks fun, but other than being Internet spaceships, it's a VERY different game from EVE. I think it looks more like SWG JtL.

Having played a little bit of both, yeah that is a fair comparison. As I've said before I played a bit of it but didn't really like the feel of it. Might just be that if I'm shooting at things in a "twitch" type game I get bored unless it is another player though. vOv

Looks like a blend between Freelancer and EVE. If it stays F2P I might have a look at it.

Environnements look stunning. Im not convinced by the rest though.

I think the main problem we'd have with any SF/Space Opera game is that we'd always be using EVE as a comparison.

And there is no equal. Likely never will be. So we have to decide how much of a down-grade we want to accept, in most cases.

Honestly its not very comparable. Immersion wise Black Prophecy totally wtfpwn Eve spreadsheet (tm). They are just not focused on the same things.

Assuming it were to happen perhaps Mortal Online would be an adequate home.
