Are you a director in a powerful, popular alliance?
Do you have access to uncountable riches?
Have you been inspired by CCP's awesome new trailer? (http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=uGplrpWvz0I&vq=hd720)
Do you seethe with treacherous hatred and contempt for your fellow fleetmates?
Come and work with the Guiding Hand Social Club! Our talented, vastly skilled pilots can fly away multiple supercapitals at a time! We can help you coordinate a massive, synchronized strike on your alliance friends, and help you walk away with billions! Gain wealth, fame and power! Betray those closest to you for a quick buck! Feel the dull ache of knowing a part of your morality just withered away and died!
What to look for when planning your exit strategy:
- Where does your alliance keep its supercapitals? Can you get to them?
- Where is all the best stuff warehoused?
- Where are the BPOs being researched? Can they be unlocked?
Contact me, or Tyrrax Thorrk, at any time to begin planning your awful, awful descent past the point of redemption! The life of a treasonous dirtbag is liberating! Being able to play Eve for free forever via PLEX is also nice!

I can vouch for this organization's....effectiveness....

So tempted to apply with like 6 or 7 alts, but it would become a RL personality disorder if i attempted it.

You're welcome to! Just one thing...
Here's what happened to the last guy that tried infiltrating us. (http://www.scrapheap-challenge.com/viewtopic.php?t=35268)

My faith in humanity once again suffered a blow. Seriously, that guy is fucking creepy, and that is putting it very mildly. I'm scared now.
-
Heheh, that's not creepy. Committing a heist, then getting a phone call *at home* from a guy who can describe your house, and claims he's going to set it on fire with you in it - that's creepy. Happened after the Mirial/UQS heist.
That bit in that scrapheap chat log, about me having a cop on speed-dial, who handles death threats for me?
Not exaggerating.
-
*shivers*
Some people treat games way too seriously, not the first time I hear a story like this.
Good luck with recruitment!

This makes me want to stage some heists myself. It really does.

EvE. The only game where you can like the infiltrating corp hijacker more-so then their poor victims.
Then again, that is part of the job description. :)

any way you could PM me the who that was?
I have a suspicion already. UQS had some....interesting people in it.
-
I never found out.

Maybe you can understand why I don't post my RL pics/info in OOC channel, despite all volumes of clamoring for them? 8)
I do have a question for Istvaan:
What's with your forum sig?
Why do you gaze upon yonder Zealot with such disdain?
-
That's not disdain, that's ambitiously gazing over the horizon!
(Besides the Zealot is behind my avatar)
-
Bah! Details.
-
I approve of this man and his message.

Oh boy. I'd suggest you search the web for any details of you and have them removed, not to mention lock down your facebook.
-
My name is in the Eve box instruction manual, and plastered on a dozen issues of E-ON - I'm afraid hiding isn't an option ;)

Hmm. You know, if I were to tick off someone to the point that they tried to hunt me down in RL, I'd feel like I...succeeded. I mean, it's not every day that you can manage to create crazy like that, and all the more because the other person has to participate in it.

Here's Mirial (and his expensive psychotherapist):
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2008/06/08/craft_addicts/?page=1 (http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2008/06/08/craft_addicts/?page=1)
(who completely violated doctor-patient confidentiality by the way)
-
Heh, nice one.
Still, the guy was off the mark somewhat:
...and was betrayed by everyone he knew in this world.
Arenis Xemdal is everybody? ;) AM survived and thrived after the heist. Solidarity peaked for years! Mirial wasn't abandoned until years later, when CCP came down on his head during the AURORA debacles.
After that came some serious crazy out of the guy. We had to repeatedly ban him from forums/vent/etc.
Despite all that, when I hear about you getting that call, another name comes to mind.

Mmm, you can still make sure that (people) search engines don't turn up anything relevant.

From reading the article, the person being referred to is anonymised. The only clues as to the identity are the mention that the person played EvE online, lost $X and 'claimed' to have been powerful prior to betrayal. Too little to confidently identify an individual EvE player. Delusion of reference on your part perhaps?
-
Know anyone else that would fit the bill besides Mirial? I don't. As a result of this article, I now know the player behind Mirial went into therapy. Ergo, violation of confidentiality. :yar:

I find your argument is flawed.
While it is possible and even likely that the reference is correct, it is not certain that the person in question is the player originally behind Mirial. Theft, deception, scamming etc. is common in EvE, and I believe it extends far beyond documented/reported cases. If one cannot be certain beyond reasonable doubt, it is unwise to make claims of professional misconduct. I'm sure you'd feel the same if it was yourself under scrutiny. That said, studies (including one I have conducted myself) have shown a dysproportionately high prevalence of mental health disorders in MMORPG users, which can be correlated with usage.
On the other hand, if you're so certain when you talk about professional misconduct, why not take it up? You can earn yourself another headline and damage somebody's career...*sarc*
-
I find your argument is flawed.
Yeah? Well, I find your face is flawed.
(oh dis)
I've been in a position to damage lots of people's careers in the past.
Just because I'm a jerk ingame doesn't mean I have to be one outside it.
Besides, I made the connection not only based on how the "patient" was described, but the monetary value of his loss, as well as time frame. Too many factors in common for it to be anyone *but* Mirial. I commented on the violation of confidentiality because therapists generally don't issue interviews wherein they identify their patients that specifically.
I agree with the mental disorders bit though - my bag is anxiety and depression!
-
Charging professional misconduct isn't anything like "griefing" in-game. Assuming one were to do so, the appropriate licensing board in question conducts its own independent investigation and then issues a ruling based on the results.
In the case in question, though, there's nothing saying that the doctor didn't check with the patient first, who might have agreed to some sort of attribution.
-
Yeah? Well, I find your face is flawed.
Sweet burn.

As a lawyer, I operate under NDAs all the time, in addition to attorney-client confidentiality. And basically, yeah, I think this doctor was professionally irresponsible, probably even outright misconduct. EVE is a small community, and the people in EVE who have lost $17,000 dollars in an overright, social betrayal is a very small universe. Confidentiality should mean just that, not speaking in vague terms so that it gives the strong implication of a very few specific individuals.
This doctor was revealing highly incriminating patient information so he could get publicity, professional attention, more patients, and thus money. Even if the doctor wasnt aware of how small and tight-knit the EVE community is, thats really no excuse, its why you keep your mouth shut when dealing with confidential matters. I find the doctors actions pretty indefensible.
EDIT: btw, the correct standard of the burdern of proof for professional misconduct (as a tort) in the US (where this guy is practicing) is "preponderance of the evidence", "beyond a reasonable doubt" is for criminal matters....
-
I think I love you.
In a totally EVE way.
-
Tort reform...much needed.

The trouble is - in situations like that - you haven't created the crazy, you've just drawn it to yourself. People who decide to hunt someone down like that in RL are more than a little unhinged to begin with.

Yes. Regrettably, I've always had the urge to stack the blocks as high as I can, and then start pulling out the bottom ones...

Having just read that reply Vik, I've had something of an epiphany: you really should join the GHSC. Sounds like a perfect fit. :yar:

But Vik has left LDIS. So if he was to be GH-SCing a corp, it would be a competing Caldari corp. Isn't it good Caldari corporate citizenship to try and bring down other Caldari corps? 8)

I do believe that (like most people) you are confusing morally unacceptable with psychologically unhealthy behaviour.
If someone destroys your life, then having feelings of anger and revenge against that person is quite healthy.
The psychological problem factor here is making your self-worth and mental well being dependent on a game like EVE.
Typical example: most people consider all pederasts psychologically unhealthy and fit for a mental institution but when asked about ancient greek customs concerning such stuff don't immediately declare all the old greeks crazy.
Just keep in mind that when behaviour is 'bad' or 'wrong' it doesn't automatically mean the person is somewhat crazy. Beleiving that is usually just a (healthy) psychological defense mechanism from yourself (it is quite scary to believe normal people like your friends and yourself can do bad stuff).

I disagree. If you read between the lines you can see I'm sending a coded message to the GH-SC under the pretense of something else.
