Title: Minmatar shamanism
Post by: Casiella on 03 Jun 2010, 14:22
Other than what we know of the voluval ritual (performed by Vherokior shamans, etc.), what else do we know about the Minmatar belief structure(s)? I've had difficulty finding anything solid, so I'd appreciate any pointers.

Strong elements of ancestor reverence/worship, especially evident in Methods of Torture: Minmatar chron iirc.

If I weren't exhausted I'd probably be able to think of more.

You can extrapolate pretty convincing stuff by mixing tribalism, shamanism, voudoun and Gallente holovids.

Basically whatever negative aspects you might find about any of those mentioned above just gloss them over by going with the fact that the Minnies are not human, they are Noble Savages. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noble_savage)

there's a small mission chain (single use) involving the minmatar graduation certificates, where things about the voluval are mentioned. There's a shaman in it too.

The first part is good. The second part, we'll just have to disagree. :)

Didn't the "torture" series chronicles mentioned quite a bit of details and rituals of shamanism when detailing the Minmatar methods?

I'd also be pretty interested in the stuff people have come up with. Any player created stuff that has spread?

I think Sarkos in U'K has a wealth of information on the subject.

I'm not 100% but I think he came up with the concept of Vo'shoud and it came canon....

I can't personally say I know of any player-created stuff that has spread, but I have a little fiction story I keep wanting to write (but never get around to) that'll involve a shamanistic ritual. Borrowing heavily from the Voluval short story, it'll involve 'magical' effects coming from the experience, but leave it all up to 'yeah, there's good possible scientific explanations for this stuff' in the end.

... if I ever get around to writing it.

I am more curious about Voluval marks. Anyone up for making a thread with all known Voluval marks, both CCP and Player-created ones?

Why not you? :) Or maybe Evanda, I think she's catalogued some of them in the past.

Contact U'K for this stuff, they've been working on it for six years.

Do you mean Vo'shun? or is there something else going on that I don't know about?
