So I'm gonna be trying to get to fanfest this year, and by trying, I mean it will happen so help me gods.
However, I have never been out of the country before, and the only plane I've ever been on was a single engine Cessna. The prospect of traveling to Iceland on my own has me scared shitless for a multitude of reasons. To combat this fear, I'm looking for a few people who are also going that I can tag along with so I don't have to make the trip alone.
I'll probably be leaving from either JFK or Logan, probably Logan cause there is the rather distinct probability of me living in Boston.

While I have no concrete plans at the moment, I intend to go to FF '11. As we get closer to the dates and have packages available, coordination this sort of thing will probably become easier.

Back in the day, when I was likely to want to head over to Iceland for Fanfest, I always found that they announced the dates far too late in the year for me to make the arrangements. I am one of those people that have to arrange cover if I take time off, and that always needs a reasonable amount of advanced notice. One year, I took a guess, based on the previous events, and speculatively booked a week off. Fanfest, when it was announced, was in a completely different month. :roll:

I have a rule of thumb not to book before two weeks in advance and I won't pack until about an hour before I leave.
Otherwise I will turn myself into a nervous wreck.
About a backpacks worth is enough for a weeks trip (the kind you can take as hand luggage.)
Dress for the weather, wear layers, always have your feet warm.

Once the fanfest dates come up, i'll like to go, think i got enough saved to not bleed myself to death.
I need to see where do the flight connections take place and at what times, as probably will have to do Santiago -> Miami -> New York -> Reikjavik a day or two in advance.
I've been out of the country quite a bit and know how to deal with airports and customs in general. If my route works for you then we can try to pair up.

Pretty sure they already announced it, its March 23 through March 26th, I know because march 26th is my 21 birthday and I remember going "fuck yeah, first time being able to drink legally and I get to do it in Iceland with a bunch of eve people!"

Yeah, they seem to announce things a bit earlier now. Probably because people like me whinged. :P
Oh, and the legal drinking age in Iceland is likely to be lower than in the US, so even if it was before your birthday, you would probably have been fine. ^^

I used to want to go to fanfest. Now I view the 2-3k it would cost as an extravagant waste.

I'd like to go to something like this at least once in my lifetime. I don't think I'd go every year though. It'd be too expensive.

Going with a bunch of people from VETO, looks to be hopefully 40 or so once we've all flown in etc...
I'm flying out Mar 22, arrive Mar 23, leaving Mar 28. FanFest is 24-26th (Thursday - Saturday) and that gives me an entire day before to adjust to timezone and two days of recovery; I don't drink, but the amount of awesome requires recovery anyways.

Shit, I'm down if I can afford it, but only if I can pass out on Ember's lap throughout the trip.
Those of you who don't have current passports, start getting that shit now haha. Expedition takes forever.

I'm also going to Fanfest this year, it will be my first time, although i will have to see how much i have by then. I'm sorry Nikita, but i cannot group up as i'm coming from a totally different direction, Europe.

okay So Boston to Reykjavik round trip for the week of fanfest is currently $458
I can totally swing that if I have someone to crash with. crashing with Kelsy.
I'm gonna be buying tickets sometime within the next 2 months, I'd need organize a group before then so I don't have to fly alone.

500 for plane 75 for fanfest tickets, whatever for the hotel room. I'm allotting myself 900 dollars for the trip, which should give me 225 dollars of spending money for food/booze/eve/iceland stuff, basically:
500 dollars - plan
100 dollars - train to get to plane (it amuses me that the train trip from buffalo to boston is 11 hours while the plane to iceland is only 5)
75 dollars - ticket
and I'll probably chip in as much as I can on the hotel too.

Hotel should be cheap-ish as long as there's a couch, a bathtub and people who don't mind bunking up.
If I can go this year I will, but I have no idea if I can afford it yet.

Can we set a date for everyone to re-confirm their budgets and availability, i would really like to plan this coming fanfest and go well in advance to tour a bit around iceland, get to know the place.....maybe there i will meet a beatiful valkyrie who has a soft spot for latin lovers :oops:

I previously didn't think I would have an opportunity to go, but it is looking like that might change. Still very tentative, though. Not solid enough for me to commit yet, though.

I currently plan to attend. While I'm not rich or anything, I don't expect to be broke or travelling on a highly limited budget. Until they announce packages, I don't know specific travel dates.

Seems that direct flights from Holland to Iceland seem to be scarce. And to stop over at Kopenhagen makes it more expensive, around 450, just for the flight alone. Can pay that but with an hotel to add, i better start saving.
Most likely that i'll be there tho.

I think it's 20, actually, in Iceland. And I think that's just the parties. You could always check past rules (or even ask CCP) to verify, though.
