Title: Why has no one else noticed this?
Post by: Seriphyn on 25 Jan 2011, 09:35
City lights are broken

Exhibit A (http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu328/Seriphyn/orvollecomparison.jpg?t=1295969630) (before and after patch)

Exhibit B (http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu328/Seriphyn/20110119171822.jpg?t=1295969631)

I took captures of every Fed highsec world in order to create a compendium...these have NOTHING to do with water cities, and is a bug.

So did you submit a bug report? I would think that would make more sense, right?

Yes, but no one's talking about it D: D:

Hmm, I did notice that, but thought it was because some planets hadn't yet discovered the amazing technology of electricity.

Why has no one else noticed this?
Because most of us do not spend that much time staring at planets, nor care much what they look like graphically, or interpret that as PF?

I actually do, I just don't usually come to a RP forum to discuss in-game texture bugs.

City lights are broken ...

Sansha stole the lights! The darkness makes abducting people easier.

I saw it being mentioned in local once but didn't give it any thought.

So, does Matar being almost completely water not bother you, or that fact it might also be bugged? Has anyone checked that btw?

Visuals are PF, no? Applies to ships, so applies to everything

Yes (http://eve-search.com/thread/1325037).

I would like it if Matar looked like as PF describes it, sure. But I cannot see I am really bothered about it. And while visuals sort of are PF, I don't put much weight on it: I don't think they count as evidence if there's no other PF support, and where there is a contradiction, I consider the visuals to be wrong.

So it's PF that we warp through stations, moons and planets? Cool. My ship can pass through solid matter. Wicked.

I have not noticed this because I use low shaders and therefore cannot see any city lights.

That's because of how warp drive works, not graphics bugs or whatever. So yeah, it's PF.

As for the topic at hand, it is annoying when they do things like this, but I bet it's kinda low on their priorities....

Actually, no. We fly through solid stuff because it'd take too much time, needless server side processing etc. to have the models circle the objects. CCP actually said so, I think during one of the fanfest questionnaires few years back. It's more about convenience and playability than PF in that case.

Do this...

Open up Pator, then Matar on planetview.

Spin the planet, if lights appear on the water then it's le b0rked.

No one is reporting it because it's purely aesthetic.

What, you don't think they could have arcologies and whatnot? We already know we have underwater cities...

Also, -1 for teh necro! :p

No because of...

Like in OP, pre and post Incursion patch. Bug people are saying it's client side, but I think others are noticing it, just not reporting as it's not an issue for them.

All the pictures I took of the Fed highsec worlds are now broken, as well. It's an issue with the light, sea and land layers, but I'm not a 3D artist or anything. I really doubt that all the highsec worlds suddenly became arcology worlds.

You mean like when they flooded Pator? Yeah, I get bitter when I think about it, so I prefer not to think about it. That's my answer, anyway. :)
