I, personally, find them immersion breaking. I mean, really: Annual return of evil enemies, each at his own season. This is as surprising as the unpredictable Russian winter. And just as much fun, imho. It als serves to reduce the pirate factions to an event tool, in my book. Thus, making them less authentic.

part of the idea is that they are asking how to make them more inmersive or better.....your comments could help, if you are willing

If CCP wants feedback on this, why do they ask for opinions on reddit, not their own forums?

I doubt whether it depends on my willingness, if my comments can help. I'm certainly not the bottleneck in the equasion. CCP dcided that seasonal events are a thing. I'm quite generally against them and so are the arguments I make against them. So, uh, don't get me wrong, but I won't sign up on reddit to make comments there that are quite probably ignored.

P.S.: I think it's great you made people here - who're less pessimistic or see things differently - aware, so they can post there. :)

I think they're fun from a gameplay perspective, though I can see how they can be immersion disrupting.

I think the immersion thing is more a case of "fourth wall" or the ooc/ic divide. If you keep mentally reminding yourself it's an easter event, it's an easter event. But if you're happy to just let go and see the lore for what it is, then it's perfectly possible to have fun with it as people are doing right now with the Valkrie stuff. This event has been a lot lot better lore wise then the last two, far more interesting and engaging beyond "blooders appear, kill them!"

The Gauntlets were pretty meh lorewise all-around. The news items were pretty bland, and the Scope video just made it worse.

The only thing I didn't like lorewise about the Frostline event was the cringeworthy dialogue they gave Tsuni Aina in the relevant Scope video. The rest of it was fine.

Can't think of any issues I've got with this Valkyrie event.

You didn't like nude Omir?

Instead of it being 10 seconds of "what the literal fuck" like the Frostline one was with Tsuni Aina's "Kill them, kill them all" line, the "what the literal fuck" lasted for the entire scope video.

It wasn't grimdark, it wasn't eerie, it wasn't even creepy, it was just dumb. It lacked the proper gravitas that is due the boogeyman that Omir is supposed to be.

Emphasis mine, of course.  Responding mainly to the gravitas comment, but I think a part of why that scope video was so weak is that we're just desensitized at this point.  Someone who hasn't been into this game's lore/RP for x number of years, someone new to the whole setting, probably sees that and goes 'oh shit, this dude is pretty bad/crazy/evil/etc.!'

Whereas most of us are just like 'meh...  we're never going to get WiS if that's all they have to work with'

When I say it lacked the proper gravitas, I mean it came across as so cheesy that it was almost Looney Tunes levels of cartoon violence.

We should've gotten Silent Hill, or the Ring, or something along those lines. What we got was, well. A cartoon villain spattered in blood laughing his ass off. Whoop de fucking do.

At least the drops from the sites made up for that. Those accelerators were awesome.

Gameplaywise a very interesting thing. Lorewise next to nothing on this scale ("Everywhere") makes sense, which makes them neither better nor worse as all other gameplay elements. Looking at this like some kind of background radiation it feels okay. Overall the combination of News Articles, News Video and some gameplay stuff feels like a good way of doing things.
The fact that it makes people looking for a more strict level of immersion unhappy is not surprising and entirely unavoidable, regardless what CCP would do.

tl;dr
Expected little fluff, got little fluff, gameplay is interesting.

Trailers for those events were top-notch quality, especially blood raider/mordu's legion ones. Who would have thought that the most famous mercenary group sounds like this or blood raiders are just a fan club of the Count.

In terms of gameplay events were extremely boring imo.

Yea I really loved the production values and all around them.

The actual, ya know, gameplay...eeeeeeeh.

I wish they'd learn from this to put as much effort into the actual meat of the event as they do on the hype because heck then we'd have some good stuff.

The gameplay in these sites is pretty boring as is 95% of all PvE. The gameplay around these sites is top notch. ;)

Sites have been overbuffed I think. Rather than being able to complete them with a stock Harpy with web and scram onboard, as you could with the Serpentis ones, now you have to shell out money for something more substanital.

I was more about videos were so ridiculous they were comedy in its purest form.  About pve they could do a little bit more imo from hacking to 2 step escalations to even making different choices - help faction A or B. It is a 3rd event in a row that is mechanically completely the same and this is sad and boring.

I wouldn't mind helping pirates in some of those events, Valkyries are a new entity IC so why all of a sudden every one want to help them and not "liberate" them with a bullet in the head. ;P

Amusing to do in a fleet when the enemy doesn't show up. The bidding on women's shoes is fast and vicious.

They aren't interesting at all, CCP may not care statistics may show people do the and that equals to the thing that they like them

gotta say that after reading all the comments here, i can agree with 2 points in particular:

- They should be bound by region/area/faction: it does indeed look silly that the guristas (or other factions) had facilities ALL over the cluster...including rival factions space.

- Scope videos are cool from the standpoint those are actual IC channels that characters can use, but the way they are scripted or shown is a bit cheesie...would like a bit more "dark" tone to them.

besides that, i would love more variation....the angels should be next, then minor factions (Ammatar, syndicate, SoCT, Khanid Kingdom, Thuker tribe would be awesome) in some relation to the larger empire factions.

While I agree with much of the criticism (positive as well as negative) that's been given, the critique I have is of a more general nature:

By making this into seasonal events, this can only lead to - I think - an "Oh, it's the Pirate Faction X's time of the year"-effect. That, to me, is immersion breaking. Why would the, say, Bloodraiders always come around at the same time of the year (other than them OOCly fitting the Halloween-theme), why should the Guristas ((other than bunnies OOCly fitting the Easter-theme)?

It just doesn't make any intime sense, at least I don't see how.

P.S.: That said, I see why it makes sense to have events at those dates OOCly. But why tie certain factions to specific seasons? I think it'd be much better and even possibly more interesting to have the events at those times, but instead of tying a specific faction to those holidays (Easter-GuristaBunnies, Halloween-Blooders) to deliberately break with those all-too-obvious fits. Have Easter-GuristaBunnies one year, but not every year. Rather, imagine how an Easter-Blooder-event would look like. Ofc, that woulod be a lot more work on CCP's side, so... I think it's not realistic to expect them to go that route.

Honestly, my biggest fear is that those events will just be exactly the same events each year (or only minor variations), so that in three years you have the weird situation, ICly, that when the Omir comes you can't really be surprised either ICly nor OOCly and can't do much more than yawning and say: "Oh, It's that time of the year again. Yah, Omir is doing that every year. I guess it's a defect clone - one that's similar to a vinyl record that plays the same part over and over again."

In this case, the Gurista event just happens to coincide with Easter.

It's actually an EVE tie-in for the Valkyrie launch, which is Tuesday.

i don't quite believe they are going to repeat year after year the "same" event.....that would be kinda silly from a marketing angle.

I do think they are going to keep scheduling and rotating seasonal events....but most likely each event will be tie ins with additional games in the CCP repertoire or with lore plots.
