The future is here and it’s full of Ratonga. SOE is adding new facial recognition tech to EverQuest 2 that lets the game track your movement and facial expressions and replicate them on your avatar in real-time. Voice chat is also built into the feature so that your character will animate naturally while you talk.

so, uhm, if you are picking your nose constantly, that will be shown?

RP being something I do to portray something OTHER than myself, I don't really see this 'feature' as anything but a shitty gimmick.

Can it detect tears?

Interesting, though I'm not sure if this really a tool for RP... or at least for RP as I know it. Speaking for myself, roleplaying in a MMO is a literary exercise. It is basically improvisational group story writing from a first person perspective. Physically acting things out just doesn't factor in. For instance, a character of mine might encounter a situation to which I would have him or her react angrily, but because the situation conveys an inside joke or strikes a particular chord with me as a player, I might be smiling while I craft an angry line of dialogue or 'stage' action. Can't imagine I would ever use this.
But yea, neat stuff even if it's just a gimmick.

As a tech demo, it's neat. For light / casual-ish RP, it's even neater.
