Just came up with this now...

On the Amarr-Minmatar front...the FIO and RSS have been stepping up their agent provocateur operations against minor Holders in Amarr lowsec, instigating slave rebellions and arming/training insurgents. Eventually, it gets out of hand. Getting more than they bargained for, the FIO/RSS inadvertently end up arming a Minmatar terrorist group with access to Insorum. They detonate Insorum bombs all across Amarr lowsec, freeing millions of slaves, but also killing millions of Amarr civilians. The Imperial Navy is sent in to pacify the situation, with orders to terminate all the rebelling slaves. Of course, the Minmatar Republic and their Gallente allies can't stand for this, and send in expeditionary forces to 'save' the slaves and stop the massacre, all while decrying the actions of the terrorists. (add corporate arms dealer conspiracy at top levels of Fed/Republic for wanting to start this war). CONCORD is not strong enough to deny the three nations' sheer sense of moral conviction and obligation.

Meanwhile, a wave of nationalist sentiment in the State sees Tibus Heth or similar jingoist become the "non-partisan" director (read; actual Executor of the State before :tonyg: etc) of the Chief Executive Panel, and the rising dominance of the Patriot bloc. Of course, he's not really non-partisan since he represents the Patriot interests. All Caldari are united in a wave of nationalism, regardless of corporate ideology (the average Joe Caldari always comes across as patriot regardless of parent corporation IMO). They feel an upsurge in solidarity regarding the deaths of millions of Amarr citizens, pointing the finger at the meddling Gallente and the barbaric Minmatar directly. As the Federation mobilizes its resources to join the Republic against the Empire, the Caldari decide to exploit the opportunity. Using their advanced military technology, the Caldari/Amarr launch a joint operation to sabotage the Tripwire defense systems as well as CONCORD counter-threat capabilities, allowing the Caldari Navy and State forces to launch an invasion of Luminaire to recapture Caldari Prime.

The long-term ailments of the Federal military due to a century of peacetime, as well as the fact they are mobilizing on the other side of the nation, means they are caught completely off-guard, and lose Caldari Prime. But CONCORD has had enough; it finally decides to step in. A temporary ceasefire is called, but the call for war is still strong. The Federation cannot justify helping the Minmatar Republic AND try to fight to reclaim Luminaire at the same time, so decide to focus on the latter, otherwise their military would face overstretch. The CONCORD Emergency Militia War Powers Act is put in place, marking Black Rise and Placid as the warzones for Gallente/Caldari side, much to the chargin of both, and the terrorized Amarr lowsec, along with bordering Minmatar space, for the Minmatar/Amarr side. Caldari objective is to conquer Placid to  fragment the Federation, Federation objective is to conquer Black Rise to negotiate for Caldari Prime. Amarr objective is to resecure its suddenly anarchous lowsec and put the Minmatar back in their place, Minmatar objective is to conquer Amarr lowsec to come for their people.

Just a thought, anyway. None of this Jamyl Sarum superwoman space opera stuff.

There's a landmark near Ammatar space that could have served a very viable way to start everything off. Basically, it's a massive (I've always assumed carrier or supercarrier-sized, though we're never told explicitely) ship that contains the remains of several highly ranked Ammatar figures from the days before the revolution; when the Revolution occured, they cryogenically froze themselves and set the ship on a course toward Mandate space.

I forget if it was a technical issue aboard the ship or if they set destination for a system that was eventually taken by the Republic, but the point is they ended up in a Republic system. Now the Republic doesn't want to give the ship or bodies back, of course, since they're war criminals to the Republic, and the Ammatar consider this a serious slight against them.

This would seem to me to be a war waiting to happen. Something provokes an Ammatar raid into Republic space to try and recover the thing, the Republic Fleet follows the Ammatar back into their own space to seek retribution, and it all escalates from there as the Amarr get involved.

Would theoretically have also prevented the welping of the entire Ammatar RP community.

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

The Amarr eventually elect a new Emperor when the horror concerning Karsoth true face is revealed. As a matter of compromise, a more neutral and liberal party comes on the throne : Catiz Tash Murkon.

A new and spontaneous project is born across all New Eden involving anonymous and vocal groups in favor of a general and unprecedented summit between all the empire factions. Pressed by their population and this new movement, the factions finally agree for a summit that would take place over a whole month.

Meanwhile, the heated conflict that has always dwelled in the Ammatar-Minmatar border zone is about to explode when corporate conflicts emerge in a new uncharted and extremely rich area that is filled with isogen 5. Isogen 5 is a very rare form of isogen that has only been established in theory and never actually witnessed in space and is supposed to be strongly tied with graviton based technology (wormholes and stuff). Caldari megas starts to negociate with the Mandate to get their part of the cake while it seems that the region has always sheltered the last remnants of the Starkmanir tribe, that everyone thought to be extinct.

This new discovery starts to severely strain the New Eden summit that is taking place nearby in the Cultural Recess (Ani Constellation).

A minmatar skirmish attack on an ammatar advanced mining post turns into fiasco as the mining post in question was actually run by a joint venture between CBD, Caldari Steel and the Mandate. Involved caldari megas are outraged and while ammatars retaliate in the neighboring minmatar system, a small Caldari Steel task force lead by Tibus Heth happen to find a huge deadspace pocket filled with weapons, ships and military brand new equipement, coming from a mysterious supplier.

In the meantime the SOE (Sanctuary) set up illegal mining ops in the region to access isogen V as they believe that it is the key to re open the eve gate.

At the risk to threaten the peace summit that is still taking place nearby, CONCORD decides to get in force in the sector and enforce a crackdown to stop the escalation between Minmatar and Ammatars to continue. The Republic is not happy and the Amarr ask for outrageous compensation.

Tibus Heth becomes a national hero when his team and him discovers the end of the supply line, that consists actually of Federation supply and medical help rerouted by corrupted Minmatars (shakorites) to fund materials of war. Outbursts of protestation appear everywhere in the Summit in Ani where Amarr ask for a full inquiry in Minmatar territory and the head of Shakor, Caldari complain about a conspiracy, Gallente ask the Republic for explanations, and Minmatar prefer to turn a blind eye on this and concentrate on the fate of the Starkmanir, trying to annex the sector in favor of the Republic (and not someone else).

The Sanctuary finally manages to open the first wormhole and spread a new wave of hope and dreams about the evegate. CONCORD considers to set up infrastructure and teams to harvest isogen 5 for scientific purposes. This seems to appease a little the growing tensions in the Summit and actually offers factions a new common ground to work together, even if each of them still tries to get the biggest piece of the cake.

The Federation withdraw temporarily the aid feed that was sent to the Republic, and even if a big part of it was used beforehand for military funding, a lot of isolated worlds start to suffer (lack of fundamental needs) and the minmatar economy has difficulties to cope with it. Social unrest everywhere. This has unexpected consequences where some tribes start to doubt about the Republic and ask for independance, and some of them actually go into open secession.

CONCORD, create beforehand to deal with capsuleers and interfactions issues proves unable or very unsuited to handle Angel massive expansion in troubled areas while Blood Raiders lead by Sarikusa himself engage in a blood feast on the secessioned minmatar worlds. In all their mercy and righteousness, the Ardishapur and Sarum houses (very frustrated by the new Emperor, say, Catiz Tash Murkon), decide without any warning to act and launch large golden fleets right into Minmatar territory to deal with the blooders. Republic is greatly offended by this and while the Amarr authorities and the Midular parliament try to do some damage control, slavers fleets are spotted in the area, full of minmatar fresh slaves.

When the Minmatar planets started to voice for their independance, threatening the Republic very fundations themselves (if some tribes starts to leave the Republic, arguing about the exacerbed gallentean side of the Republic, the Republic falls apart), a sympathy trend hits Intaki while Foiritan has to deal with a U-Nat treacherous act reducing the political influence of backwater and lowsec worlds.

I have not thought enough about the rest yet but it surely involves backstabbing, scapegoats and unfortunate escalation that was not really expected but nevertheless happens following a disastrous series of events, ending in the total destruction of the summit in the cultural recess with all their political leaders (Midular, the Empress, Foiritan and most of the megas' caldari CEOs, including Gariushi and KK's CEO). CONCORD loses all their popularity and people lose faith in peace processes, thinking that the enemy is the source of all that happened. New leaders are elected/choosed : Heth for KK's CEO, Blaque for the Federation, Shakor coming back for the Republic, and Ionis Ardishapur for the Empire. As all the minmatar-ammatar borderzone is in full chaos with factions battling against each other (including for isogen 5), SOE and CONCORD dreams are torn apart to pieces and CONCORD has to acknowledge the militia emergency power act to avoid a full scale war.

...

I think I lost myself in my delirium.

Would theoretically have also prevented the welping of the entire Ammatar RP community.

I think the wars could have been started without having any of the grand characters being brought in.

To me it would seem more appropriate for the world to just "head that way" despite the efforts of those seeking peace.

Imagine all the leaders and CONCORD as "heroes" trying to stop their people/capsuleers from diving headlong towards war.

Put war groups in each major faction that are steadily moving towards open warfare with another faction (already existed) and then find a few sparks between them.   The Militia Act becomes the way that the clusters leaders maintain their own power (giving into the hawks a little) but avoid all out war.

It's late and I'm tired, but here's a few fun ones:

What if instead of the Empryrean war we had a series of civil wars?

1. An economic crisis in the Federation (can't think of a good reason off the cuff) raises tensions between many member systems.  The strain of continuing to finance and provide humanitarian support for the Republic becomes a serious political issue during a recession.  Things escalate along several topics until a power bloc of Federation systems tries to secede. Intaki is the first to go, and a wave follows them.  Fed Navy moves in to prevent this, and you can then draw parallels from the US Civil war for a guide to the shooting. Add in assassinations, etc, and a recipe for fun results.

2. I think there's plenty of ammunition with the Heth storyline for a legitimate civil-war to break out along already established political lines.

3. The Shakor government collapses without aid from the Federation and the Tribes quickly spiral down a path of sectarian violence.  With the 'gloves off' several tribes waste little time before aiming directly at the Empire (and each other). You can get a nice mix of opinions between the tribes with certain ones going straight for violence and others trying to play peacemaker. Absolute chaos and opportunism abounds.

4. No Jamyl, and Karsoth quickly removed for obvious heresy.  The stagnation without a clear timeline for new succession or a powerful regent holding the Houses together drags on and on. Old feuds long forgotten begin to surface and the 5 houses quickly begin to lose cohesion. Selective and focused attacks from unrestricted Matari Tribes prey on certain houses more than others, increasing tensions between them, as the Imperial Navy is reserved for 'home defense.'  A few fun options, including a new succession trial where the results are contested by all houses (quickly coming to blows), and of course my favorite being Khanid seeing a weak field and making his play in force to take the reigns back ;)
