Title: Starship Cross Sections
Post by: Katrina Oniseki on 25 Jun 2011, 03:55
Istvaan Shogatsu's Imperial Issue Apoc (as far as I know, the ship is owned by DigitalCommunist, and was on loan to Istvaan)

I am unaware of the source for the last two images. I caught them at EVE-Search here, http://eve-search.com/thread/1477988/page/1 (http://eve-search.com/thread/1477988/page/1)

Has anyone else seen other such artwork? Surely there must be more. I know I've seen the various 'blueprints', but other than these three, no proper Cross Sections. It seems the last two were part of a set, and since the Harbinger is clearly shown in both images to compare to, I wonder if there's one for that ship. Whip me for being a Drake fan, but I'd love to see if anyone has done a Drake cross section. Considering the popularity of it, I figure they must have, though the same could be said for the Rifter.

From TonyG's presentation at EVE Fanfest 2011... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJfiQ43Adsg), a cross-section for a Megathron (http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu328/Seriphyn/megathron.png). It cuts off, so presumably it's much larger than it is. Also, interesting to note how a capsule-fitted ship does not utilize officers.

The separation of key reactor systems baffles me. You typically want to ustilize such things as natural circulation when it comes to cooling, and when it comes to a casualty, you want to be able to isolate things like ruptures without disabling the vessel.  Emergency generators should be in another area, but not primary/secondary systems.

And I would think large spaceships would have completely redundant propulsion plants (ala nimitz class carriers).

I think I found the source at eve-files.

EDIT: I dunno what's wrong with the links though. It's not working. :/

I don't know a damn thing about engineering.
