Title: Astartes [miniseries]
Post by: Silas Vitalia on 03 Feb 2019, 12:06
Hey so, you all are a bunch of nerds, and who doesn't like the Emperor's favorites obliterating heretics?

Quick little series of CGI videos, passion project, Space Marines wtf-bbq-ing people it's quite good.  A few minutes each video.

What I like about these, part 3 especially, is it sort of matches what's been in my head reading some of the fiction about these overpowered pew pew folks.

I've been eagerly awaiting each installment, after discovering the teaser (https://youtu.be/pcTZrrtdAUM) last year.

I agree about the series seeming to match just what Astartes are supposed to be capable of.

I've watched a couple of reviews too, and one in particular brought my attention to the amount of detail included in shots that last little over a second.

Probably the best WH40K fan-made content I've seen in a long time, if not ever.

Yea this is easily better than most cut-scenes for 90% of 40k games.

Not that games workshop knows what the fuck to do with their property, but they need to give this guy a bag of money and a team of animators and release a goddamn movie.   People would buy the hell out of this.

However, given what they did with Damnatus, I suspect they would be more likely to reach for their lawyers.

Not necessarily.

There's another WH40K movie, also on YouTube, called Guardsman (https://youtu.be/6bgi5STRe8E).

The behind the scenes (https://youtu.be/2t_v8pFSR1o) video is pretty good too.

Apparently, they were able to get one of the GW/Black Library people to be a voice actor near the very start of the movie, but it is still an independent effort, and as far as I can tell, it's not officially endorsed by Games Workshop.

That said, the people at GW liked it enough to invite the creators to work with them on the upcoming, officially licenced animated series, "Angels of Death", which was announced in December with a teaser (https://youtu.be/ixVvdnf49tA) on the Warhammer TV channel.

Way too good.

That Angels of Death teaser looks like hot garbage.

This Astartes chap is the real deal :(

I still don't understand why CCP isn't farming out their cinematics team for animated pay-to-view content.  Built in market, easy to break out on netflix or whatever, this stuff should be a no-brainer.
