Title: EVE's Next Portrait Contest
Post by: Darveses on 07 Feb 2011, 12:20
(http://www.imgbox.de/users/darveses/modelbanner.jpg)

Update: New thread due to Adidumbess, link updated.

Some of you probably have already seen the threads, but for those who haven't yet: we've set up a new event - 'yet another' portrait contest, this time though, IC.

All information can be found in the two threads on the eve-o forums, but here are the bullet points:

We will accept only the first 100 portraits to avoid getting too many applications (OOC contest got 700+ apps) and thus a too ginormous workload, as we'll discuss and rate every portrait within our 5-person jury. We might extend the number though, if we can handle more.

Prize money is set to 500mil for the best boy/girl respectively, and probably some smaller prizes for other extraordinary participants.

Aaaand here are the two thread:

Hope this sparked some interest - looking forward to seeing you folks there :)

Ye gods!

Revan posts something and I actually agree with it.
Surely the world is ending.

Actually you are from the community team and are now aware of the issue. Second, this is not moderation discussion because you haven't moderated anything. You are boycoting a legit in character event and forcing an IC event to be held in an ooc forum ( here ) against your own rules.

I mean. I have no intention of taking part but I am baffled as to why the IGS thread got closed.

Because Adida is some sort of odd dev who just cant keep their fingers off doing shit on the forums. We had exactly the same problem with her last time, and this is the second of two threads that i saw today where people were complaining about his/her incompetent mod behavior.

Just hope people haven't lost interest by the time we get this fixed.

If all the judges went for shirtless gay glory with their rating he certainly would, unfortunately I think I'm the only one who does that^^

Darv isn't around now so I guess I have to update here.

CCP has locked the second thread as well with the following explanation:

Hello Revan Neferis,

First of all, please let me say that we understand how much time and effort went into the preparation of this event. However, we would ask you to use the Events & Gatherings forum section to run it. While we understand the implications related to the rules of your contest, Events & Gatherings is the proper place for all events – including the in-game and/or role-playing ones.

Thank you for your understanding.

Should you wish to create a new thread in the Events & Gatherings forum section instead of the existing one, please feel free to do so. We will lock the old one at your convenience.

I guess it means that we can't do In character events at IGS anymore.

Any of you were communicated of this new policy? Neither did I, thank you very much.

No, I will not host Role Play events at ooc forums.

I have opened a discussion on eve general to check this out

huh, well that seems a bit odd.

looks maybe like you can have a thing entirely in IGS, like the thing for Poreuomai.

Or a thing entirely in Events & Gatherings.

but can't have both, which seems off in a way.

It's not good for getting more people involved, rather than the small handful who look at IGS routinely. :s

No it's not even that.  BTW Poreuomai had links and a main ooc thread at eve out of pod area of the forum too. Precisely the same, ic, IGS, ooc , out of igs.

But again this isn't what concerns me now. This is the catch here:

" Events & Gatherings is the proper place for all events – including the in-game and/or role-playing ones. "

What he is saying is that we can not ( we as role players) do role play events in character at IGS.

Clearly, the Sani Sabik just need to open a modeling agency via an IGS announcement, invite people to send their headshots for consideration, and EvE-mail the applicants details about an event.

Didn't someone do similar about making a holo recently?

Except when you dont want to restrict the audience to IGS readers - this kind of lightweight rp event could attract a lot of new folks to rp.

Yes, I remember they moved the pvp part of my Gladiator games to eve general discussion and left the gladiator games indoor at the IGS. ( meaning , role players can't have massive numbers of space ships exploding, that's not for folks with wizards hats on. That's not role play) eh. And Guess who did the move? Adida.
But gladly her nonsense was quickly fixed, as the whole event were brought back together at IGS in less than an hour time I believe.

Since that I don't remember any of my events at least moved to any other place before this absurdity revelation that we can't do ic events on IGS anymore.

Someone said this is pretty fucked up. Hell be dammed the day I have to agree with that and it's right now.

I ran into similar circumstances when I hosted the racing league. They think you're trying to subvert the "don't post the same topic in multiple forums" rule, which while technically true would also violate the ic-only rule required on IGS. I eventually relocated my rules to an external webpage to link on galnet and avoid the bullshit entirely.

Also...the glb competitions had limited prizes from corporate sponsors. Not quite as extravagant as this one. :)

Too many rules applicable there, not applicable here, changing there, etc etc. My impression is that they have no consensus about how to deal with the words " ic event" in one single sentence.

Overall the forums need work in terms of RP. We need things like:
*An OOC forum for discussing things (Yes that's why we have backstage but its not exactly easy to stumble on for newbies who need help) Eve Fiction seems to have sort of been Frankensteined into that role, but its not what its intended for.
*The ability to replicate IC information OOC in other areas of the forums
*A general overhaul of the rules of the way OOC and IC content is handled, which seems shoddy and poorly thought out in general.
*Possibly training at least one or two GMs to specifically deal with RP in a way that RPers can agree with.

I'd love to sign up for this but the forum login page has been returning me a connection reset error each time I go to it, so I'm unable to log in. Anyone know what that might be about? I've tried various browsers and various computers, hopefully I'll get it resolved in time to be an applicant.

Yes CCP is trying a feew things to pinpoint the issue. It seems like its escalating and lots of people are having problems to log in to eve forums just. Everything else works just fine.
timeframe to solve the issue is expected around 8-24 hours if it is what they think it is.

On topic, quite wonderful candidates and very nice answers to the event's question.
Keep coming, I think it'll be entertaining to all.
And we have some pleasing surprises coming from the judges too....

Yeah Borza ain't much of a fan of Blood Cultists.

That's the charm of the event, if it was ooc it would be just like any of the others out there. Making the event ic was a dog's fight, but role players shouldn't give up of their ic identities in exchange of better results. The ooc version of the event done got over 700 applications. The ic version now is set to 100 and even so I believe it will take a few days to fill the slots.

I'm fully aware that making it a Sani Sabik event will prevent a few more purists role players to join, but it has been like this in the past too although many role players have found their way around to still keep their characters and participate. Garreck of CVA is a great example how he has managed to do that with full elegance.

In short, Sani Sabik events are pretty much neutral in many ways but I have taken pleasure into adapting and extending my events to the out of rp circles and trying to reach a broader public. It's incredible how many new role players I've seen flourishing from the events I have done along the years.

And it fits my character's true motivation for doing these events, Revan is a public political figure and contacts and personal affiliations around the whole New Eden is what keeps her business moving. At each event as such she gets to extend her area of influence and personal network of contacts and I of course, get to know wonderful new people around and even good friendships have come from things like this.
All in all, it's worth the efforts to keep it ic and the difficulties it brings along. But we adapt, we overcome issues and we have fun at the end, that's what matters most.

Thank you for making this event.

While it would rather be crucified than watch any of the many popularity contests that are infecting prime time television these days, I am afraid one of my characters lives and dies for that crap. I had to spend two hours redoing her portrait just to reach a 'decent' level, which is not easy when modeling a Vherokior.

Still, I have little expectation of winning the contest, though my character most likely do.

I did not make it past first round, so all is good. I would be hard pressed to be in character during second round, as I am not very good at handling when the interests of my characters conflict with the interests of myself. So while Natelia now might be depressed for a month, I am quite happy not having to participate in a competion that I fundamentally despise.

Edit to clarify: As I stated in my earlier post; I despise popularity contests, not the people making the in-game event. Once again, thanks for putting effort into this.

An update here due to the ISD news.

Will just repost my ic reply at IGS

Update to this event to answer to the several mails about the ISD news:

Pilot Modelling Competition Down to Final Five
reported by: ISD Stephan Lau | 2011.03.15 19:06:09 (http://"http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=4399&tid=7")

To clarify a few points, The 2 billion isk prize has been distributed between the 5 final candidates and the Total sum of prizes turned to be 2.3 Billions instead.

Some of the Finalists have taken the final private challenges too and although those were not completed as yet, It is my intention to wait a few more days and declare a final winner based on my final judgement.
This will be made here for recognition purpuses despite the fact that the event is now closed and we are not accepting new applications until the next season.

---

ooc bottom line is the news came out at an unexpected late time so although the Isk has been distributed I'll announce a Winner to match with what was announced in the news.
