If there's already a thread about this - my  apologies.

I post some of my art on a deviant art account and found this:

CCP is running a contest on DA for artists to create their own spaceship and the best drawing will become a ship in game.

Seriously - submit to this for those that can draw ships and then links us your entry here so we can favorite you and make your pictures stand out.

fixed. The problem is even the ones that are good don't look like eve ships, they look like something the combine, or maybe gundam would have. The people who made the designs just don't play eve. Come on, 12 main guns, a supergun, 30 point defense batteries, and torp batteries? What game is that? It ain't eve.

Ack - normally if they didn't finish you can comment on the drawing and leave a note - but they are showing as this is their only submission and I can't leave a comment.  DA noobs with comments off... *baps*

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I've seen that image somewhere before.  Chances are that's not an original...

Wondered what sort of ship I would make if I could and imagined something along the lines of a Minmatar Drake.  Godly thick armor tank with a heavy emphasis on missile systems (HAMs > heavies) rather than projectile turrets.  Scratched this up (http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/2953/shipconcept1.png).  Estimating ~600-700m in length.  A "heavy battlecruiser" somewhere between a HAC and BC.  Wrapped in ablative armor (a la the Nid and Hel), with a big rack of engines (a la the Belicose) to move all that mass.  Would you fly it?  Worth the time to take further and make into a complete entry?  Suppose it could also serve as a command ship or EW platform of some kind.

Who else is working on a submission?  I fully support any and all efforts to buff up any Backstage-affiliated entries.

That's a concord ship, frigate type. I've seen them buzzing around gates....or at least, it looks VERY similar.

Needs more Sanshabots. Also, less starfighters, lots of submissions look good on X-Wing, but would be about the size of drones in EVE.

...hm, I have a few ideas which sounded good last night in my feverish head, now'd need some time to draw.

I wish I had artistic skill of any variety, I'd like to make a mean-looking Caldari ship. Or Matari. Something ugly with a lot of DAKKA!

I am kinda worried about the judges tho, it's DA not CCP.  Does DA understand how the EVE ships roll? /o\

And the sheer number of people not listening to rules, not surprising but hilarious.  Due to the ship size restriction I can't submit the design I was thinking of doing so I'll have to think of something else. :(

On a side-note, the Angel ships are about the most ugly ships i know in-game. Anyone who disses the Rax' as a phallic symbol need to have a look at th Mackhariel and stuff it.

The problem with 'phallic' symbols I think has more to do with people thinking with thier organs and not the designers intentionally messing up - when I first saw the Rax ingame I though 'now that's a cruiser' based on design and form, even the placement of the guns. Then some asshole had to go tell me his worthless oppinion.

PS: The Phobos is RED. Not pink.

I'd draw a new Federation cruiser or two if I had any drawing skills whatsoever, and a decent program for it.

And a couple Amarr ones.

In case anyone was wondering, the "special gift from CCP" for submitting a valid entry was/is a 30-day activation code for converting a trial or starting a new account.  Contest is still open for another three days though, so get your entries in if you haven't already.

I'm rather annoyed - I had two designs (one actual entry for the contest, and one I just did for fun and amusement) but my Printer/Scanner/Fax unit decided to present me with an unfixable error around two weeks ago... hence, I'm fairly sure I'm going to miss the entry date. Fah.

Oh well... will be throwing the designs up on photobucket for other interested parties.

Saikoyu, what list of semi-finalists are you seeing?  That vertical Minnie design, the "Tornado", that you specifically mention is among the selections, and I do not see the other one you've linked in the list at all.

For a ship that is almost certainly destined to be a one-off thing like the Apotheosis/Zephyr/Primae, I think CCP has a good list of options to choose from.  Some are a bit generic, but there's some EVE-ness in there that should definitely satisfy.

The Tornado (http://news.deviantart.com/article/133308/#/d30g6np) is my first pick. It is both vertical and wingly.  I also like the Atlas (http://news.deviantart.com/article/133308/#/d30nuja) as an SoCT/Jove/SoE T3 thing.

The ships picked sure are pretty but most of them won't fit in the EVE universe.   Kinda disappointing, I saw EVE styled ships WAY superior than some of these picks.

Edit: Just saw the ninja swapping going on with the Tornado in the semi-finalists.   Lol.  :DA:

Confirming the Tornado was ninjamoved in due to previous design fail.

That said, there are a few others that, while not bad, are also obviously designed by people who've never played the game and as such really don't conform to the "Suitable for integreation into EVE Online" rule, not to mention a couple of that are resting on the edge of Copywrite Violation Cliff.

At the end of the day, my picks are the Tornado Minmatar BS (http://th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2010/284/7/e/eve_online__tornado_by_dreamwa1ker-d30g6np.jpg), the Cyruk Velam (http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2010/279/6/f/cyruk_velam_by_kheng-d306rgr.jpg) Gallente and Amarr-ish... thing, and the snail's shell- er,  Atlas (http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2010/286/e/2/eve_online_contest___atlas_by_abyssal_specter-d30nuja.png). They'd probably have to rename it, though, to avoid claims of alliance favoritism.

They really should have chosen the best of each race, and added 4 new ships instead of just 1.

Then again, I guess this leaves the window open for 3 more contests to fill the gaps...

Winners announced (http://news.deviantart.com/article/133951/).  Very happy with the 1st place selection, but the obvious racial identity of the winning ship makes me think it'll be used as part of a new class or tier for all four races rather than a one-off.

The winner gave some suggestions for other racial ships.  Other than the Caldari ship, the others all are EW Battleships (Caldari already have the Scorpion).

I however cannot make sense of the artist's suggested Caldari ship.  It has a bonus to Shield Transfer Arrays (high slots), almost as many Turret points as Missiles (6 v 7), and standard Drone capacity.  Raven is better.  vOv

So, what are the Caldari missing between the Rokh, Raven, and Scorpion that the other races have?
