Australian trees require forest fires in order to germinate, so all the things that live there are used to forest fires that (because many of their trees are gum trees) burn hot and fast and occasionally explode.
In other words, I'm not sure fire would kill them...

Speaking as someone who dislikes spiders.

Since spiders eat bugs and other small critters (like birds and cats) then I wonder what Australia would be like if there were no spiders.

Yeah, there are a lot of flies in Australia, especially away from the cities, so I can only imagine how bad it would be without the spiders.
