Title: It Follows
Post by: Saede Riordan on 06 May 2015, 13:58
Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkZYbOH0ujw)

This was easily the best horror movie I've seen in a long time. It was just awesome.

When I read about it, I found it kinda silly. But ohh well. People have different tastes and I'm glad that you have enjoyed it.

The premise is indeed stupid, the movie is staged, shot and acted quite well though. :)

Well if I do end up watching it it would probably still scare the shit out of me because I'm a massive coward when it comes to stuff like that.

Disclosure/minor spoiler but read it:

The movie has only I think two scenes with any gore at all!  It's a movie about creepy atmosphere and dread, not torture porn or gross-out visuals.  I think it shows only one dead body and that's it.   This is coming from someone who thinks most modern horror movies are ridiculously stupid and I hate the masochistic 'torture' horror film variety that got popular the last ten years or so.

This is a smart movie with a great cast of teens who actually look and talk like teenagers, you will be surprised.

That is exactly what spooks me out. It makes my mind go nuts. And I think that is the case for many people. It is the unknown and the feelign that something is watching, or following you, that makes people scared in most situation.

I'm still gonne be like:  ...........\o\

Yes, horror movies with blood and gore are not... very scary. Just off putting for some.

Psychological stuff however... I still remember the day I watched The Ring. That thing scared me for life.

If you want a psychological horror, watch The Babadook. Nothing has ever creeped me out quite like that film.

This sounds interesting.
The dealbreaker is of course how many jump effects there are?

These I hate with a passion as I find them to be a very cheap way of eliciting a reaction.

There is only one jump scare in the whole film (possibly two depending on your definition)  but the main one is rather obviously lead up to. Aka, you can see it coming.

Then I'll be sure to give this a view when I get the opportunity.

I liked the quality of the film but it was not my cup of tea. Most horror isn't to be honest. I always put myself in the characters shoes wondering what I would do and am always sad when the character runs (and usually dies as a result) instead of turning around to give her pursuer a big whack to the face with a blunt object!

Alien movies though... 10/10

Is this on netflix or similar? Or is it still rather new?
