So at the bottom of the forum there's the usual legend showing how the forum looks like if there's unread and read posts in a subforum, yeah? Any chance we can move that up top or remove it altogether? It's a very minor annoyance, but loading the forum, scrolling down to the bottom and seeing no new posts, then having to double-take before you realize it's just the legend happens regularly for me.
I can't imagine any user of these forums can't figure out what the bright and shiny vs dull and dark icon means on its own.
-
I went ahead and hid it on the main (Back n Black) theme. If you're using a different one let me know.

*chains Misan to the website*

Welp, nothing changed for me, on any stylesheet (I'm using back in black). Maybe it's a cache thing or something, but I can't be bothered clearing it right now. Thanks for the attempt.
Second question, just for convenience for some of us:
Could we have the rules post from the reception posted in the catacombs section? I never even remember the reception exists, so I just spent several minutes trying to find the rules post before I facepalmed myself into a concussion. It's hardly important, just convenient if a mod doesn't have anything better to do.
-
Hmm, it's consistent for me across browsers. I would definitely suspect a cache thing. Nifty trick I just found out about, at least for Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+R does a full page (hard) reload, loading everything on the page again.
Anyone else confirm the change exists or isn't seeing it?
Thread added to Catacombs otherwise, just a quick copy page job. ;)
-
Loaded it on Chrome. Hard reload, still there.
I suspect we may be talking about different things.

Let's be honest though, my posts are worth it.

Possibly, screenshot plox and it'd be a simple fix.
Also this thread, wat?

dat bit.

Hah, there were two duplicate themes (one older)...cleaned that little bit up and it should work now.
-
You broke pretty much all the styling in the process.
Blue links highlight as grey (white highlight as blue), text input boxes and menu dropdowns are the same dark grey color as the forum, text in those input boxes is a lighter-grey color, buttons don't have their usual skinning...
Put it back please.

I don't know, I kind of like it. It feels a bit cleaner somehow. Leaner, meaner, cleaner, neener neener okay I have no idea where I was planning to go with this sentence.
-
I'm pretty sure images that should be appearing within the theme seamlessly having black borders, quote blocks having black outlines (and only on the top and bottom at that), and other things I notice every time I look at the screen aren't intended.
This was such an unnecessary change I'm not even sure why Misan did it in the first place. Especially after it breaks things. :P
-
Why wouldn't it be intended? I love the new quoteboxes. They look really nice.
-
The more I use it, the more I love it in fact. The whole site now looks much crisper and cleaner. It's like going from 320p to 1080p @ 120. It's gorgeous.
-
Bluntly, I don't care that you like it more.
The theme is broken due to the changes Misan made. I don't care about the legend one way or another: I care that half of the forum's skinning is broken now due to that change. If he can figure out how to do one without the other, fine - until then it should be reverted.
The legend wasn't that annoying in the first place.
-
What exactly is broken? All functionality remains, everything works as it should and looks better.
-
grey on black looks terrible
-
We should have a hot pink theme. \o/
-
It's an updated theme that works with the correct version of the forum. The previous version hadn't been updated for years, to the point where updating the theme (you can pick the other named version now from the theme selection in your profile) again just now has the same overall changes.
I've been using the current version forever, so I honestly don't know the exact changes. If you can provide a screenshot of what you see and what you've seen previously I can always create a simple alternate theme.
-
It looks and works great, Misan. Thank you for all the work.

the back in black theme is full of broken images for new posts
http://backstage.eve-inspiracy.com/Themes/backnblack_20g/images/english_british-utf8/new.gif
404 Not Found.
Broken image boxes, everywhere.
-
Weird, works perfectly fine here. Tried a hard reload?
-
it's a fault with the theme. Doesn't have a full set of images. It's to do with language settings.
the SMF default theme works fine.
back in black gives you eyestrain anyway. grey text on black background is not very readable. theme seems more trouble than it's worth.

That's the other theme I restored to show Morwen. If you pick the forum default the images should be there as normal. You'll know it's the right one because it will have the Backstage banner at the top left.
-
i still seem to see the broken images if I select "forum default", or either of the "back in black" themes, including the one that 0 people are currently using.
http://backstage.eve-inspiracy.com/Themes/backnblack_204/images/english_british-utf8/new.gif says it's a broken link, as does http://backstage.eve-inspiracy.com/Themes/backnblack_20g/images/english_british-utf8/new.gif
i think they work if I change to "English" language instead of "English british"
-
Hmm, okay, that's odd. There simply aren't any other language specific folders besides English. :ugh:
I can force the forum to stick to English only, which shouldn't impact much (it's all UTF8 encoding anyhow), but not doing that unless necessary...or once I have more time to investigate.

Except you didn't restore it, Misan. See these pictures, taken less than a few minutes ago. Everything marked with a red arrow was changed when you mucked with the theme to remove something that didn't need to be removed at all:
- Black vertical line next to portrait icon
- White breadcrumb text (should be blue)
- Grey mouseover color for links that are still blue
- Lack of actual quotebox
- Dark grey background in text input fields and dropdowns
- Light grey text in text input fields and dropdowns
-
Erm, those pictures are all of a theme working as intended. It looks good, clean and useful. Much better than the old theme.

I didn't muck with the theme. I made one small CSS change to #posticons. The rest of the CSS is setup as the theme is designed. The theme you're referring to was an outdated version that I should never have had installed, or at least removed once SMF went past RC1.
I apologize for the sudden change since the old/alternative version of the theme had different styling. If the dark theme is no longer working for you, there are at least several others installed that can be used.

Don't let it get to ya, Misan. You're doing good work and Backstage should be grateful for it.
