Something I thought of the other day, was that some people, are good at having ideas but not implementing them, while others are great at implementing things but not so good at coming up with ideas.
So, why not talk about character sorts that you'd like to see more of, to act as an inspiration for people. So they can think: "Yes! I want to do that!" and off they go, and everyone goes \o/
I'd like to see:
More sensible Blood raidery people
More Imperial stoic people
More Gallente campaigners
and so on.
-
Nothing I'm about to list implies that what we have now is wrong - just that here are some things we don't see much of (and therefore I want to see moar).
- More lesser-played factions (SSOE, ORE, Syndicate, etc.)
- Factionless characters with more motivation than "LET'S BLOW SHIT UP"
- Sov nullsec RPers
- Straight females
- Gay males
-
I would like more "normal" people.
More Average Joe, please.
Also, Caldari Practicals and, a personal favorite, Intaki separatists.
-
I would like more "normal" people.
More Average Joe, please.
/me raises hand
Well, relatively normal.
-
Could you elaborate on what you mean by "normal"?
-
A liberal Ni-Kunni border runner whose fortune is built on the foreign specialty slave trade
An airhead Gallente sports icon who went capsuleer after his sports career tanked
A Brutor tattoo artist who loves inking idiot offworlders with inappropriate symbols
A NOH advertising exec driven from her position by the Provists who turns Ishukone
-
- More real pirates.
- Caldari practicals.
- More serpentis loyalists.
- SSOE loyalists.
- CONCORD loyalists.
- Midularites.
- Ruthless gallente.

More than enough of these in EVE already.
Think so? Plenty of sociopaths and mass murderers, but no one really ever takes the time to enjoy the intimacy of a sharp blade and the look of surprise on a victim's face as their life slowly drains away...

I'd make an entire corporation of them if I could.
-
...It doesn't really fit the setting, though, minus Jamyl's little friend?

In a cybernetics-rich environment with individuals able to wield massive warships with a thought, who could possibly imagine individuals neurally networked in such a setting?

Hm, yes, if that's what you mean by it, then I think lots of people already assume that their implants have at least some wireless communication capability.

Yep. Kendu legend and lovably brainless.

Will they end up sympathising with a tribal society and become a freedom fighter?
-
- Ruthless gallente.
Does being a deeply social consertive, latent Garouni fundamentalist and royalist combined with right-wing militarism and hawkish support of the Federal Military-Industrial complex as the CEO of a shadowy and dubious corporate front count?

I know of two who've been/are somewhat 'terrestrial' and prefer dudes. The former is retired and the latter can be a bit hard to catch, however. :)

I still don't know what "terrestrial" means in this context.
While I'm at it, though, truly nonviolent characters would also be good.
-
I still don't know what "terrestrial" means in this context.
I'm assuming "characters with lives and connections outside the world of podders (typically "planetside", although adjustable for non-planetary backgrounds)".
(Like Mata. :wry: )

More terrestrial heterosexual female characters.
"Terrestrial"?
The opposite of a space lesbian.
EDIT: Didnt mean to be so obscure. Was trying to be flippant.

Already got them, doesn't TS-F have that kind of network?
It would depend on which type of telepaths we are talking about, but our cybernetic networking essentially functions like mind-communication. The more fanciful varieties are currently [REDACTED]
-
Yeah, I wasn't really thinking 'telepath' meant like a neural network. Telepath, to me, speaks of someone who can, without the aid of technological innovation, read someones mind.
a neural network, on the other hand, just seems like "a telephone inside your head."
-
- Ruthless gallente.
Does being a deeply social consertive, latent Garouni fundamentalist and royalist combined with right-wing militarism and hawkish support of the Federal Military-Industrial complex as the CEO of a shadowy and dubious corporate front count?
You are the only one I know.

Hans and Bastian. They are pretty nasty characters.

Hans and Bastian. They are pretty nasty characters.
Octirant has been succeeded nicely.
-
- Straight women;
- Gay guys;
- Bastards -- screw this peaceful co-existence shit, I'm rich and fucking powerful;
- Minor factions (hello EoM and SoE);
- Sciencey types who understand the vague ideas they're talking about rather than blathering about roughly technological-sounding things.
No idea if these overlap with anybody else's: I deliberately avoided checking.
-
- Straight women
- Non-angry, intelligent Minmatar
- Non-derp and :lolslavery: Amarr
- Caldari Practicals
- Cutthroat Gallente
- Dangerous cults (EoM, Blood Raiders)
- Average Joes (Just going about my business, kthxbai)
-
More terrestrial heterosexual female characters.
Yes, please. My alts* need more meatshields.
*Not Vieve, for reasons that are probably not obvious. Nor Celeste, because she can just make her own.
-
- Non-angry, intelligent Minmatar
- Cutthroat Gallente
Of these two, can you expand a bit more on them, even if just via PM, also to Lyn, wondering about what you mean re: ruthless Gallente?
-
People like Gessenier or Octirant/Nardieu or maybe Valoron. I forgot about the three latter, shame on me.
-
I'll expand happily, with a disclaimer.
DISCLAIMER: This is by no means a slight against any player, player group or player character; this is not an attempt to tell others how to play.
Alright, as to the first: There's an abundance of Minmatar whose sole motivation seems to be the absolute destruction of the Amarr Empire and, by extension, anything that they perceive as a threat to the Minmatar people. While this is certainly believable and understandable from a lore and PF perspective, it's also the norm. It'd be nice to see more Minmatar who maybe want to just live an ordinary life apart from slavery, war, death etc. Perhaps Minmatar that focus on supplying aid to needy planets in the Republic, or maybe even sub-clan leaders trying to simply "move on" from the past and look toward the future. The "intelligent" qualifier was meant to suggest that I'd like to see these Minmatar not just be "let's love everyone!" characters and not be portrayed as idiots or incompetent - but rather be intelligent, even thoughtful characters who are on this path because they choose to be.
To the second, I refer to Gallente who either pretend to be white knights while engaging in underhanded politics, corporate warfare, sabotage, espionage, etc. Or even Gallente who are just completely honest about the fact that they're not interested in being the "good guys," they're interested in being wealthy, powerful and influential and there's nothing you can do about it except do it better.
-

I'm apparently sorry to say that I don't know any of the three mentioned parties, can you characterize them a bit to further your point if you have time?

Thank you, this is perfect for me. Ahh for the time to RP more often, or with more characters at once without alt-failing.

Gallenteans that consider their ideals of freedom and everything else a tool in their hand, that consider that it is their perfect right to behave as they want, to be ruthless tycoons, lobbyists (especially since PF describe the Federation as a lobby paradise) or the very model of capitalistic tyrans.

This character motivation was the driving idea behind EM for a long time. It sought to defend and cultivate the Republic, and leave the burning and pillaging of the Empire and their State allies to the U'Ks of the world. The problem is, once FW hit, that made little sense. The Republic is now at war, under attack, and simply wanting to move forward didnt make much sense when there is the threat of invasion. Some minmatar pilots dont care, but it would be a poor sub-clan leader who rather ignored the invasion of their ancestral enemy. The fact that FW is eternal, vague, and kinda meaningless in an OOC sense doesnt help matters any.
-
Agreed entirely, Gottii. I was more meaning that a sub-clan leader that saw the war as necessary but not primary. It was service to the tribe and the people as a whole to serve in the militia against the Empire but the greater purpose would be to secure the stability of the tribe and allow for progress.

Or Minmatar characters who are upset at the Elder's agression and disrupting the peaceful state between the Empire and Republic?

More terrestrial heterosexual female characters.
"Terrestrial"?
The opposite of a space lesbian.
EDIT: Didnt mean to be so obscure. Was trying to be flippant.
My first thought on this topic was also..."LESS SPACE LESBIANS" :) there are why to many dudes which dont like that their female charekters get intimate with another dude around the universe. That why on my bio is the girlfriend slot still open. So come on guys, Its the future its time for some "dude and dude" and/or "dude and fake girls" action :).

More Gallente in general, as well as more serpentis and gurista. Currently I think we only have Anshar and Veto respectively. There could even be competition between these corps, Sepentis bickering over trade territory and Guristas enfringing on each others trade territory.
Thukkers. Proper, nomadic Thukkers. I would love to see a corp that moved around all over the place and lived out of a couple of carriers :D

Gipsy band ?
-
-Bricoleurs and happy-go-lucky Gallenteans. While there is a decent amount of activity on the utilitarian and dark sides of the Federation, the cultural aspect doesn't seem to be as popular.
-Minmatar characters having a clear association with their tribe.
-Intaki traditionalists who are not separatists: There's a wealth of Intaki PF which hasn't been played that much probably because it doesn't fit well together with the highly popular separatist agenda.
-Jin-Mei: There's supposed to be a freaking civil war and a mass exodus going on. Maybe an assassin game?
-Less rebels and more toons who play the status quo of their faction. More Diana Kims, more Rojd Blakes!
-Cults! There can't be enough cults!

Gypsy band aren't really nomadic as such. They do move around a lot, but it's more because they keep getting kicked out than because they want to go ;)

Hi.

Thukkers. Proper, nomadic Thukkers. I would love to see a corp that moved around all over the place and lived out of a couple of carriers :D
You don't need carriers. An outcast Thukker band wandering hi- and low-sec in Mammoths and Rifters, mining and producing ships and ammo from local belts and disrupting local commerce for a short while before being forced to move on could be fun.

Mammoths would certainly work, but I picked carriers simply for the mobility and ship hangar bay :P
Also the added combat utility should it be required.

That's very true :) mammoths to blockade runners to carriers :D I think I may have to do this at some point. Maybe put some skills into industrials first though.

At airport, killing time on phone now that I have teh interwebz for the first time in three days. Set expectations for level of thoughtful input and proof-reading accordingly.
Re: Minmatar with clear connections to their tribes. It'd be lovely to see more, yes. There are a few of us around, though. Is one of the issues a matter of visibility, since it's generally not "on" to have big inter-tribe discussions--especially ones involving disagreements--in front of outlanders?

I just thought of something else I'd like to see.
A Gallentean drone-rights activist who believes Rogues have attained sentience and should be welcomed as another race at the political table.
The fun I can see coming from this... heh.

This.
Also, Sleeper cultists.
Also also, Takmahl, Talocan and Yan Jung cultists.

I do remember Kyber arguing that discounting the Rogue Drones as little more than chunks of metal with a distaste for people was a bit short-sighted. Never quite went as far as anything that could be considered drone rights, though.
-
Advances have been made in that particular area already; now they have the same right to get shot for the bounties on their heads as most other non-Empire factions do.
-
I like all the characters I see and think we're a fairly diverse lot.
I'd like to see more Caldari characters with a strong bond to their parent corporation.

There have been a number of characters that see rogue drones as an oppressed minority deserving of "human" rights. And yes, we need more of that, I agree. :)

What isn't?
* Anything that features "shaman" in the background.
* Ex-love slave of Jamyl Sarum.
* Heth's illegitimate half-Matari child.
* Roden's harried executive assistant.
* Member of the Organisation pour la Libération de Furriers Génétiquement Modifiés.
* Devout Amarr struggling to reconcile his faith with being a capsuleer. Mostly because I've done that one already.
* One of Ze'ev's kids.

Strongly suggest looking at Orca if you are hanging around highsec. I was looking at making my alt corp like this, An Orca and a Freighter can move a lot of stuff. The orca will move a tengu, a mammoth and a flat-packed noctis fairly easily, along with a lot of minerals for reprocessing. Probably a POS as well.
I was hoping to get the corp's republic standing up over 5 so I could put up highsec pos when they moved to 0.5 systems, as a sort of practice run for moving the whole thing to lowsec, but I never made it.
-
* Devout Amarr struggling to reconcile his faith with being a capsuleer.
I'm (sort of) doing this one. Azdan's a priest turned capsuleer (because he had little choice) and is now trying to rectify his faith to his being a capsuleer while trying to proselytize to others.
I've received a mixture of reactions from people really enjoying him to people really hating him. I suspect there is more of the latter.
-
I think most of TS-F sees Rogue Drones as an intelligence worthy of recognition and respect as a seperate entity. I know we've worked with some of the Rogue Drone RPers in the past.
-
I'm seeing something right now on IGS, that I wanted to see for a VERY long time:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=142302&find=unread
Minmatar with BAD Voluval marks showing up. I really hope this topic takes off - aside from a few positive marks in the Ray of Matar short story, and a few negative in The Outcast chronicle, we really haven't named very many possible Voluval marks. So much attention has gone toward developing languages like Napanii and Amarrad, and this symbolic/hieroglyphic language with major impact on the lives of many Minmatar has been neglected...
-
Istvaan, that's the Kindred of Scarecrows thing going on in this very forum :3

The reason for that has honestly been that any time someone tries to come up with something that would exist outside of the context of that matari's specific clan, people cry foul. It gets to the point where no one wants to come up with anything new because someone might disapprove.
As for what I'd like to see more of, definitely real pirates. More ransoming, crazy vitoc addicted bounty hunters, more backhanded dealings, more people that want RP in space instead of in stations while ship spinning, more true gallenteans like Seriphyn, some good blood raider characters, more angels, more serpentis, essentially, a lot of the RP that seems to go on now appears to be people arguing in the summit while mission running. I want more multiplayer in my MMO.
-
some good blood raider characters
good in what way ?
-
some good blood raider characters
good in what way ?
Less space vampire fetish club, more evil religious cultist. Valerie's blood raider barbies are honestly the best blood raiders out there, or at least the best visible ones, and they seem to have purposely been made to be OOC silly.
-
Evidently people dislike Minmatar shamans. Im crushed, really. No, I am.
Now, on to my opinions.
I'd like to see more gallentean RPers at a depth greater than "Lets get high and fuck!"
I'd like to see more Minmatar beyond the depth of "GRR, BLOW THINGS UP IM MAD"
I'd like to see more serious Amarrian development beyond "I AM HOLDER" (Why I made my amarr alt)
I'd like to see more small-faction (Thukker Tribe, Intaki, Achur, SoE) Rpers
And yes, more normal people with normal problems (What I try to do with Ava)
In contrast
I'd like less "Muahaha, I am an all-knowing rational scientist! I know everything about everything!"
Less straw man, 2 dimensional characters of all factions.
Less "I am a god and blow things up because I am a god!"
Less "Look how evil I am! I control everything and am a shady criminal mastermind!" Who never undock
Less furries
-
I'd like to see more hairy, timid, stuttering children who know everything and argue constantly.
-
How about rational scientists who know a fuckton about a very narrow area of expertise? And can actually do so believably without technobabble that just confuses anyone listening?
I don't mind criminal masterminds who never undock if they really ARE criminal masterminds and not just saying it.
-
Evidently people dislike Minmatar shamans. Im crushed, really. No, I am.
I wouldn't call it a 'dislike' on my part. I'm just fairly certain that I couldn't play one properly ('properly' defined as 'with other people in game who have their own opinions and more experience with that part of the sandbox').
-
I'd like less "Muahaha, I am an all-knowing rational scientist! I know everything about everything!"
Got it.
-
Less "Look how evil I am! I control everything and am a shady criminal mastermind!" Who never undock
What relevance does undocking have to being a criminal mastermind? Seems a rather simple-minded approach to being a criminal mastermind, blowing up ships with other ships... how quaint and petty, really. I'll leave the killboard heroes to masturbate over their efficiency and k/d ratios; my work tends to be more subtle, and verbal in nature... and really, once you've used words to alter the map of Eve Online, using ships to beat up other ships seems like the roundabout, unnecessarily laborious way to do it.
-
Seems people thought I meant the things I said at individuals. Other than my 1st line, actually, none of it was, and I certainly didnt have Lyn or Istvaan in mind for either.
Ill go back to playing eve wrong, I guess.

I wouldn't take it personally Ava. People are passing off opinions and that doesn't automatically make them the majority opinion or right in any way. You shared your opinions as well, which are neither right nor majority by default.
Also, I don't think anyone accused you of playing the game wrong. Just have fun. :)
-
I wasn't offended or anything. I just get *antsy* when people equate PVP performance and "undocking" with other aspects of the game, as if being proficient in one is absolutely required for the other. I'm shit at PVP, and the first to admit it, partly due to my name causing me to be rapidly primaried in any mass engagement. But I've talked people into handing me motherships. I've hijacked others when I felt like it. My people can join *any* alliance in Eve at their leisure, with their mains, because said alliances recognized long ago that *they can't stop us* from getting at their deepest secrets, and it's just easier to let us in when we ask - more fun for everyone involved that way. Most of my grand achievements have come without having to touch the F1 key. The next guy below me, whom I see as my rightful successor, is still stuck managing his giant fucking alliance, whereas I have evolved my criminal bastardry to a level that exceeds such petty regional concerns. I have enough assets to play this game approximately three times longer than my natural projected life-span. I squish the entirety of New Eden between my fingers like so much plasticine, and just because the ennui of raw, uncountered godhood means I enjoy the inside of a station more than the middle of a thousand-ship furball, doesn't mean I am not a motherfucking criminal MASTERMIND.
Ok so maybe I was a *bit* offended. Enough of this derail. I'm drunk. I'll probably delete this post tomorrow when I realize how many hints I just gave away.

Sorry I said anything.

No, no, I get you, my previous post was an onslaught of masturbation. Let's all agree that we value different skillsets, is all - politely ;)

Fair enough.
