[The Underdepths] RP Channel [NSFW]
« on: 11 Dec 2012, 03:54 »

Channels 'The Underdepths' and OOC: 'Soundspace' ingame.

The Underdepths originated as a DarkNet group operating out of the Caldari State, largely known for a number of holographic chat-rooms operating under the same name. Founded by a partnership operating under the pseudonyms of 'LITCEVECOL' and 'SSavage', the intention of tUD at first was simply to create a network from the ground up without all of the authority mandated back-doors, for the disassociated class of the State who were savvy enough to find them to communicate in a relatively secure, anonymous manner.

To the operators' surprise, tUD enjoyed rapid growth in traffic from the Federation - largely appealing to script kiddies and university students.

This caused some dismay among the Caldari inner-circle of the community, who felt that the juvenile nature betrayed their vision for the DarkNet; as a potent tool for the anti-political, and those who have to live on the fringes of the law. Others were simply upset that the Gallente had any presence on tUD at all - but these were a vocal minority.

It wasn't, however, until tUD hit the Minmatar Republic that it's potential was realized. During several riots on periphery worlds, local warlords would enforce blackouts of GalNet access to suppress the dissenters. It was at these times that tUD would be used to create a backdoor to the general media, providing news reports following the situations from eye-witnesses to the general GalNet.

tUD's userbase continued to grow, whilst providing a greater amount of news by the day. These reports became prized by it's community for not being 'filtered for consumption' by any member of the Big Four. The Underdepths would increasingly operate on an anarchistic bent.

On the 14th July, YC110, tUD mysteriously went down for 48 hours without any notice. When it reemerged, LITCEVECOL announced the launch of tUD's new Holo capabilities, which would allow rooms to operate in an a greater virtual space, and facilitate activities such as Mindclash (which became particularly popular on the network). Users speculated that there must have been more to the sudden downtime, a wealth of conspiracy theories being conceived in the following weeks.

In December YC114, Quinzel Nikulainen, CEO of Kokako Acquisitions, associate of the tUD founders and ex-moderator, would open a branch of tUD specifically limited to capsuleers, interested in harboring a similar environment in a market that had seen little penetration by the original incarnation of the network.

As a player, what you should expect from tUD:

- A lax environment
- Few Empire pissing contests; political talks in tUD should focus on self-critique and collaboration, no individual should be ostracized for their political bent
- Moderation that focuses on serious disruption, harassment, spam or general ass-hattery.
- Channel should generally be considered NSFW; NSFW topics are allowed, nudity is not restricted although character may 'block' the visual feed of another character on a case-by-case basis if the character would not wish to see such material

Concerning tUD's Holo/VR system:

tUD's VR system allows people to speak in a virtual environment, although the channel can be accessed from many interfaces, including transcribed text, video and audio, etc.

In the virtual environment, people are able to call items into the simulation, or participate controlling an avatar that doesn't represent their off-screen selves. The identity of a participant using this method can be called up at any time, and the name on their CONCORD license will be displayed when they talk on text/audio feeds, rendering any attempts at impersonation fruitless.

This system has some restrictions, which again are intended to limit disruptive users;

- Deniability of Actions means that a user can selectively ignore any physical actions taken out on their avatar
- Users can be squelched, preventing them from using the VR tools. ( If somebody continues to roleplay in this manner despite being IC banned from the VR, they will be removed from the channel )

Moderation at this time will be handled on a case-by-case basis unless this policy proves to be impracticable.
