Title: Where do your characters live?
Post by: Katrina Oniseki on 19 Sep 2011, 05:34
So I've been thinking... what types and places do your characters live in? Is it an expansive planetside estate, or a rusty CQ aboard Rens trade hub? Do your characters live in one place, or none at all?

I figure a lot of characters don't really have a 'home' in a sense, merely having rented or repurposed ares to sleep when they need, preferring to stay in-capsule.

Katrina lives on her ships. Her 'primary' home would be her Tengu, which is easily one of the most fleshed out environments I've made for EVE RP. On I-RED deployment down in Placid, she lives on a Buzzard.

Technically she has a home on every ship she owns, which is a lot. But those two are the most common.

Arkady has personal offices in most stations the corp has offices in (he's a director after all). The corp offices have some attached sleeping arrangements for the capsuleers - they apparently come and go a lot. For the offices Arkady stays regularly, he has some "modest" personal rooms ("modest" for a capsuleer, rather spacey for most "normal" people).

I figure that the way capsuleers move around a lot, they won't have huge, permanent apartements in all stations. It's more like "luxury hotels" where you rent some more or less big room for the night or the week, and only when you stay in a station regularly you think about getting permanent accomodations.

Visiting planets is a special occassion for Arkady (as per the chronicle stating planetary travel is time consuming), so I do not play him as having particular accomodations there, either - it should be more or less trivial to get some secure, expensive hotel room in the big cities, though.

Post by: Vieve on 19 Sep 2011, 06:42

Maris more or less lives on one of her Iteron Vs, when she's not crashing on someone's couch.  If she ever talks herself into getting a freighter (or listening to certain people who've been telling her she needs an Orca), she'll likely live on that -- when she's not crashing on someone's couch.  She does rent the occasional hotel room, but she hasn't had a station apartment of her own in a while.   It's also been a long time since she's crashed in the back rooms of any noodle shops.  And live on a planet?  Forget it!  Planets have weather!  And monkeys!

Vieve used to have a planetside home in Juunigaishi.  These days, in between episodes of being dead for tax purposes various reasons, she flits between a number of apartments and the quarters on her husband's ships.  The closest thing she has to 'home' is likely the place in Madir.

Celeste lost her house on Villore Prime (the one Vieve grew up in) thanks to a civil suit filed against the Fauconniers after Vieve elected to start shooting down Federation-allied pilots.  While she's still got the estate on Mies Prime, she's not exactly welcome there -- and well, her cousin's being under SDII enforced house arrest there might make some things a bit awkward, even if they'd ever had a good relationship.  These days, she lives in apartments near her labs and offices.  The closest thing she has to 'home' is likely her suite in Kador space.

Sabi?  Eh.  She's somewhere.  Probably station or planet based.  The Fauconnier-Tisserand brood in general don't care much for living on their ships.

Anywhere really. N'maro's used to kind of just making do with whatever. Kind of a utilitarian view of anywhere will do. He pretty much lives anywhere where theres air and food. Human company is preferable too.

Kiki and Kala live together in a large apartment in the Pator bottom station. Or is it rens top station.. I never can remember. Either way, we have a nice big indoor garden and lots of sleeping room, so if anyone ever needs a place to spend the night, we're around :)

Post by: Jade Constantine on 19 Sep 2011, 07:15
similar to the op. I've always envisaged Jade as living on her currently most popular ship. A lot of the time I log out in space or at one of our towers so it makes a lot of sense. I figure the Raven-class battleship she's currently having fun with has plenty of space in outside of capsule captains quarters and makes a decent command and control hub.

Post by: Vincent Pryce on 19 Sep 2011, 07:16
Despite CCPs insistance to stick us in a rusty closet, Vince has a couple of luxurious apartments around the cluster. Screw the game mechanics, I have fictional money.

The apartments tend to be grand in size and have no costs spared in the decor, after all in New Eden, crime does pay and it pays well. Vince will gladly put a carriers worth of isk into use to make his home feel like home.

Apart from his luxurious apartments he tends to stay in the local quarters if he's out of his home region. He utilizes the captains quarters as most of the ships he tends to fly are flown with the expectation of a short life span. That said, he does have a few ships that have slightly better accommodations for living space than the average hull in his hangar.

Kiruss doesn't have any "homes" on any ships, he would rather just stay in the pod than walk about the ship.

He keeps quarters at Advent's HQ in Augnais as well as on Advent's POS within the wormhole system.

Ryven has quarters at Mercy's Keep in Amarr, in Huola, and a privately owned plantation where his personal cigarettes, pipeweed, and cigars are made.  He is considering setting aside a plot for making tea.

Post by: Kybernetes Moros on 19 Sep 2011, 09:49
Nothing else to do, might as well bite.

On his larger k-space ships (the smallest being the Tengu) Kyber has some limited quarters, usually in close proximity to the pod gantry. They tend not to see extensive use beyond sleeping; he'd rather either go to some better quarters on the station in question, if it's one he frequents, or stay in the pod altogether if he's not planning to stick around. He does, however, tend to use sections of his ship for visitors ahead of his actual quarters; they're reserved for only... uh, shit. Hard to remember. Maybe four or five people, overall.

His stationside residences are probably more interesting. He's a habit of accumulating them over time to suit wherever he's basing, and something of an interest in making them different. It's been fun to play with using the various technologies in EVE in a more domestic 'rich kid designing a living area' sense: the ways in which you could apply artificial gravity to it are the textbook example, but by no means the only. I'm trying to avoid naming too much for RP's sake, though.

Right now, though, his situation's far more amusing. Living out of control towers is certainly a change for the guy, but again, avoiding RP spoilers compels me to omit specifics. (And it's somewhat amusing to note how I wasn't expecting this post to be so long; what I've mentioned is the product of smaller elements accumulating over the time I've RPed Kyber, rather than a few sessions in which I've sat down and tried to figure it out.)

No quarters in ships, because when she undocks, the player is in game and docks every time I stop playing for the day/night/year.

She does have a home station, where she spends most of her time when not visiting family or on a pilgrimage on planetside.

The quarters where she lives at are quite austere and she spends time only in the safe sections of the station.
The ones where heathens have no place and where one may spend ones time in peaceful contemplation.

Of course the corporate offices added a few more locations to be in.
Title: Re: Where do your characters live?
Post by: Lyn Farel on 19 Sep 2011, 11:45
Before becoming a capsuleer, Lyn lived in all kinds of various places all over the cluster, and usually not very luxurious (rather austere and small, but always a mess of books and stuff, ofc). This is why she continues to accomodate herself with whatever she can find. This is also why she did not even try to clean up her inherited provincial estates (very large, that was quite a palace in the middle of nowhere). Legacy she barely kept 2 years anyway (yeah, capsule and Holders are not very compatible, etc etc). So, when she was still in KotMC she had tons of appartements in her estates that she actually never really used, when she prefered to sleep in the derelict library. She also had her quarters in the Keep, decent in size, and a real mess, as usual.

Now that she has left both her Holdership and KotMC, she does not live anymore in her estates, and she probably still has her quarters in the Keep. Not sure if Aldrith is not going to kick her ass out of here someday. :p

Anyway, she is actually relocating herself and is soon probably going to set up a large refuge in some kind of crowded place (oh yeah, i loved Hensgha in DX3, blablabla), somewhere mostly incognito (because she prefers it that way). Of course, as a CEO of an emerging corporation, she has rather large offices in the headquarters (Stetille).

Vicky usually lives out of a converted Hurricane named "The Woman Scorned." Nothing huge, it's still a combat vessel, she's just mean to the crew and took a bit of their space to make a lounge and master suite.

In the few stations where she has lived for a while, she has much nicer accomodations, usually including things like hot tubs and/or swimming pools.

Jowen lives in on of the Carthum Cong. stations in Madirmilire. He is a bit of a slop so the Minmatar CQ is pretty much his style.
Title: Re: Where do your characters live?
Post by: Verone on 19 Sep 2011, 16:31

Ethan pretty much sees captain's quarters as a place to decant, get a shower and get some clothes on.

He has a few extravagantly luxurious apartments in Veto Corp's various spheres of operation that he shares with Kyoko. The most notable is their Penthouse in TXW where the corporation operates from.

No expense spared of course, and every luxury one could think of given his wealth.

He also has a large suite on board his Archon class VCS Heretic in case he ever has to rest in the field while the corporation is deployed on a Nomadic operation.

As for planetside estates, he still owns the title to his family's estate on the sandy dustball of Duripant IV, being the eldest child. It's frozen along with his family's sizeable list of assets given Ethan's wanted status inside the Federation.

The jewel of his collection is a large planetside estate that he calls home. A well hidden location that contains a huge beach-front two level glass fronted home that overlooks an enormous azure lagoon and forms the centrepiece of a private resort and retreat.

It was built as a birthday gift for Kyoko, somewhere they can spend time together fishing, diving, powerboating, swimming and relaxing. He eventually intends to retire there when he gets tired of blowing people up and taking their shit  :D

Esna has quarters in Mercy's Keep as well, and when in empire space rents quarters in whatever station he is basing out of (at the moment it is Huola; in previous times it would have been in Mamet or Ratillose).

Additionally, Esna has quarters aboard his Archon, and perhaps more unusually has financed the restoration of a couple of deadspace asteroid mines to serve as private retreats when he wants to get away and not be found.

Ghost's position as an overseer is demanding on him IC. His time in the Capsule (when I'm logged in) is actually his rest/break time, more often than not, because of the attention one needs to Capsuleer. Otherwise, he's occupied with running the different administration needs of the Foundations when I'm logged off.

I'd say Mammal lives in an apartment on the Intaki V-V Station. Something modest.

If there was a ship he called home, it would be his Thanatos. Only because it's cool, not because I fly it often.

Simca has quarters on pretty much all her ships. Something she stole from Kat when they first started dating. She is currently working on building a larger 'townhouse' style suite in a few of her battleships. She is trying to get Kat to buy a penthouse in the biodome in Intaki V-V station. At some point she might even buy a beach house or build one just as a place she can get away from it all completely.

Shalee lives at Mercy's Keep in Amarr, our headquarters for the corp, for the majority of the time.  Her suite is inside a turret- despite Aldrith's insistance that the Keep is mostly underground.  I wanted a turret! (Lyn got a window)

Whenever she's too tired to travel back she stays in Huola, an apartment on the 24th station.

Being a capsuleer with disposable income, she also keeps apartments on the EFA station in Amarr, Kourmonen, and Arzad.

I think the most impressed I've ever been with someone's living arrangements was Vincent's flagship, it was gorgeous from what I remember of it.

Post by: Norrin Ellis on 23 Sep 2011, 13:16
Norrin spent his last midshipman cruise aboard the Venture Racing flagship, a Navy-issue Megathron converted into a sort of floating hotel.  When funds permitted, he commissioned his own Navy-issue Megathron and had her refit to suit his personal taste.  Coincidentally, Norrin is now the CEO of Venture Racing and, therefore, also commands the team flagship, as well.

When traveling outside of his usual home system, Norrin typically pilots a Navy-issue Dominix, which serves adequately as a home away from home.  The family estate on Gallente Prime is his original home, and he occasionally drops by there to visit his parents.

Post by: Varlerian on 24 Sep 2011, 22:03
Hmm.

Varlerian, being the business man that he is, owns and maintains rather modest hotel suites on stations stretching across State and Federation space. For times he's on the move, he has retrofitted both his Machariel and Orca to have private quarters where he can stay during times outside his capsule. The private quarters on both ships are modest in size and decor, only slightly above those that house the crew for each ship. For assets outside of space, he has his family-owned island estate located in a fairly tropical region of Abagawa IV where he retreats to every once in a long while to visit his sister and mother. Yes, all in all, I would consider Varlerian to be a rather modest, frugal man when it comes to the properties he chooses to call home.

As for Korsavius, he too can be considered rather modest. The only ships he installs private quarters on are those that are above a cruiser hull (the only exception being his Loki). Even then, they are small quarters, furnished with only the basic necessities one would need in space. Korsavius has recently purchased a small parcel of land alongside one of the lakes located in the biodome of the Intaki V - Moon V - Astral Mining station, however. He has plans to construct a luxurious lakehouse where he can retreat to after a long day on patrol.

Silas has an extensive palatial family estate on Khanid Prime, where she has been living out of the public eye in near seclusion these last six months.

When on active duty she has a rather ornate residence aboard her flagship Archon. Square footage being at a premium and expensive on vessels, she's made it a point to carve out entirely vast and empty residential spaces, just to show off that she -can-.

Post by: Lucius Vindictus on 11 Nov 2011, 15:08
Even as a wealthy capsuleer Lucius struggles with his low birth and the decline of his impoverished noble family. In Amarr society money isn't all (though it helps to have lots of it :D); a merchant is still a commoner. After he migrated to the Khanid Kingdom he lost what little was left of his noble legacy in the Empire.

He is willing to take on any expense to increase his status or make him look more aristocratic than he really is. He likes to surround himself with servants and yes-men to feed his delusions. He has even built a large over-the-top estate inside the compound of his planetary command center on Khanid Prime that he calls his "Palace". His family lives there permanently. Lucius himself only rarely stays there, and is more often found in luxury hotel suites in the stations he visits, or those in the offices of the Khanid Trade Syndicate. He only uses his captain quarters if he finds the station he visits to be distasteful.

Sai and most of my alts stay at various station apartments, usually centered on wherever Rho Dynamics is based at at the time.  Sai does have quarters on her Primae, which has been converted into a rarely undocked mobile corp headquarters so it really has the whole set, offices, quarters, board rooms, etc.

Sometime in the future though, I was planning to have Sai end up on a supercarrier, endlessly wandering the stars, which I admit I got from an EvE story about Thukkers (I think) worshiping the pod pilot who flew the ship in a kind of living saint sort of way.  And no, I don't remember where the story was.

Techie has a CQ....somewhere....wherever he happens to dock for the night.  But most often than not, he's curled up happily snoozing away on one of the beanbag chairs in the Skyhook.  This is, of course, to the chagrin of the housekeeping staff who try to convince him to go to a room.  Old habits of sleeping in weird places die hard, though.

13 days since last post, but what the hell.

Marcus tends to live on the Orca, Spirit of Wind in quite large quarters, converted from the observation deck at the top of the crossbar type thing on the dorsal-stern part of the Orca. He kept the huge observation window looking out over the ship, stern to bow. It's a civilian ship class, not intended for combat, so the quarters are quite luxurious and open plan. The combat ships, like the Machariel are different though, space is premium, so quarters have the bare minimum requirements.

If he's not in the same station as the Orca, he'll bunk down on whatever ship he's using at the time, though.

A downtown penthouse on the tallest building in a coastal city on Ohide III. Grae is a holder there, after a certain Khanid player was driven away and ceded it to him.

He doesn't sleep well there. The city he runs is surrounded by Holders who plot against him constantly, plus the Sarumite families who have been conspiring to destroy him since before he was a capsuleer (origin story stuff) have many agents in the area.

It's a full on power struggle, with only a capsuleer's wealth and the hiring of competent 'specialist contractors' from the State to stem the tide. A lot of bodies wash up on the beach-side of this town, and everyone keeps quiet as to the reasons.

This has led to Graelyn being in bed with many local crime groups, and the often corrupt clergy in the area. Economic opportunity brought about by Graelyn's violent purging of corruption and the vested interests of the neighboring Holders is countered by growing crime as a result.

If Grae really wants a full night's sleep, or needs a safe place to be during a particularly violent week, he sits in geo-synchrous orbit around the planet in a cloaky Pilgrim, the Vow of Silence.

The rest of the time, he's in Kamela, in the Wolf's Den (Wolfbrigade has truly made the system theirs at this point).

Cia has a secure cargo container converted to hold an artificial 'planet-like' environment with illusory holo-generated views, sky, weather with appropriate temperature changes, and a day/night cycle. She has a house in the style of her native city inside, with a garden and so on,  at a level of luxury appropriate for the quite but not extremely wealthy where she comes from.

When away from her home station for the night, she generally stays on her ship, in fairly minimalist accommodation aboard - with the exception of her Proteus, which has much more luxurious on-board accommodation.

While not doing work for Stimulus, Logan can be found in his modest, if sparse quarters in TXW-EI. begrudgingly bought from Syndicate owners when Rote Kapelle took full residence there a few years ago. The purchase has allowed Logan to customize his quarters with the needed extra security and sensor suites required to keep his guests safe and his door secure.

While not palatial by any means, his quarters are kept mostly tidy (with the exception of a few broken glasses), well stocked with various recreational drugs and Alcohol. The twin "windows" in the room are actually expensive view-plates simulating an external view of the docking port of the station, the actual room not directly facing the exterior of the station.

Logan has various other haunts, including smaller quarters in Stacmon, Maut and other undisclosed locations. All feature advanced security and likely bribes of local officials to look the other way when the terrorist arrives on station.

The closest thing to long-term quarters Simon has are his rooms on Asvasana, his long-standing mission Myrmidon.  It's rarely under threat and usually close by, so it makes sense.  They might be a little cramped, but he's put a bit of effort into making them comfortable and familiar.  Outside that, he prefers to splash money on garishly extravagant temporary quarters when he needs them.
