Gallente and Caldari technology
« on: 31 Mar 2012, 06:19 »

One thing that interests me is the divide between Gallente and Caldari applications of technology. It's said that Caldari have the "most advanced technology", but there are more examples of the Gallente inventing things and generally applying them in more convenient ways (AI, automation, ultra high-tech cities, etc.). So, what I was thinking is that both factions are the most advanced technologically, just the difference comes from how they apply said technology.

There could be a myriad of different examples. An example of Gallente hi-tech would be their stations, which are designed to emulate planetary environments (complete with flora). Even underwater or subterranean cities too? Then of course, extensive use of drones and automation from the day-to-day. Fully-automated factories staffed by androids, too.

An example of Caldari tech is more subtle and lay in the construction of an object rather than its outward function. Like, Ukomi superconductors are in high-demand because of their superior technology, but it's not like the average Joe has use for it. I guess it's having technologies that assist in wider units for an entire industrial system, rather than having technologies that will benefit everyone's ease of living on an individual basis.

Also, from reading the FP, it sounds like Gallente tech is not universally distributed, and that you have agrarian communities that still use television and all that. Sounds like the State has technology at every level except their impoverished areas for those who fell off the bottom.

So I suppose, Gallente have the superior civilian and domestic technology, whereas Caldari have the superior industrial and military technology? I can't exactly pinpoint the wording that would differentiate how the two cultures apply tech.

An important question in all this is what kind of technologies have been advanced in the past 200 years of Eve.

I think it is far to assume that Luminairian Technology was advancing very quickly (in comparison with the Amarrian) until the outbreak of the Gallente-Caldari War.

At this point Luminarian Technology diverges into Federal and Caldari.  In this instance the Caldari work to avoid a numbers disadvantage through application of technology.   The Jove introduce a disruptive technology towards the end a long war (the capsule).

The war ends and CONCORD is established (or is it the other way around now?).  Based on how CCP introduces new ship technology into the game (like the Marauders), CONCORD forces the sharing of new weapons technologies across the non-Jove members to maintain a level of parity.   Actual design choices are another matter entirely.   This means that given the resources the non-Jove members of CONCORD can build anything the others have.

This however does not consider the differences in the way people live their lives.

I think that in the case of the Federation, you have a wide range of communities with different levels of technology  varying with their need.  I imagine the Federation has a lot of people planet-side, which allows for more variation in need than say a station-dweller.  Sure the holo-net access is great, but the oxen reproduce on their own and don't take nearly as much maintenance as the drone-plow.

In the case of the Caldari, the corporations run everything and I imagine most Caldari living in stations.  By living in stations (or non-terraformed worlds), the average level of technological need is much higher than someone on a farm on a temperate world.  If you manage a Caldari Provisions farm, you will have Caldari Provisions drones, an on-call drone maintenance specialist, and access to the parts depot in orbit or at the local area's spaceport.

The freedom that the Federation allows for means that technology will not be thrust upon its people unless they pursue a technological area.

I doubt there is much difference in the average technology use of a Roden or CreoDron employee and a Lai Dai or Ishukone employee.
